I think Alkaline Trio could get going again. Brendan Kelly said the Falcon tour that ended around Thanksgiving was going to be it for them for a while. Brendan wants to do another Wandering Birds record and also get the Lawrence Arms doing stuff as well. Brendan also said Dave has a new solo record to finish up. He didn't mention Dan and Alkaline Trio, but I gotta believe he is about at the end of the Emergency Room cycle. I don't know if Derek is doing any solo tours or not, but that's 2/3 right there. The only Blink stuff I am aware of is not until summer, so maybe after Christmas things will pick up in the Trio camp.
Admittedly, I am not super familiar with it. I checked it out when he was going to be playing with the Suicide Machines. I remember thinking it was pretty good, but I just haven't gone back to it. I distinctly remember really liking his performances of the songs live though.
I'm sure I would enjoy him live, I bought the cd and haven't touched it after that drive home. It wasn't bad! Just really have no urge to listen again.
I really just kind of forgot about it. But yeah, I am in your camp. There is just so much good music out there, so some stuff gets pushed out. His live show was good. It was just him performing, but I dug it.
Also I spoke to Derek last month at a show and he told me they are looking to start recording the new Trio album early to mid 2017.
Well Dan's touring through March, so looks like April would be the earliest. I know none of them live there anymore, but of note, his tour ends in Chicago. Maybe going back home to record?
I'm just happy it's on the horizon. I would love for them to work with Bill Stevenson again. How likely do you think it is that they will work with John Feldmann, since he and Matt are so close now?
This is awesome, but seems like a pretty short amount of time to finish writing an album, considering Blink has commitments in June. I assume there are already some songs ready to go and plenty of ideas laying around. I guess April to when Blink tours is write, record. and demo songs. Matt does Blink. Go to Bill or someone to formally record the album. And then later part of the year is schedule some tours. Maybe mix in some one-off stuff during the writing process. Idk, just sort of thinking out loud. Pretty sure Derek has said he lives out in Vermont or some place out that way in kind of the middle of nowhere. Pretty much the opposite of Chicago haha.
I don't see why it couldn't be. I really have no idea what to expect from it though. You had Dan just make like the punkest record he ever made and Matt, the poppiest haha.
Also, I just saw Dan again with Derek backing him on drums. Such a great show ! Hearing songs off of Hurricane Season played with a full band was absolutely awesome. Neil Hennessy was on bass and Dan P. Played 2nd guitar and keyboards. Oh, they also played Burned Is The House and Broken Wing.
I think I could honestly see it be a little bit of both, but who knows. Between Matt and Dan they are two of the most open minded people.
Yeah his show in Philly was awesome. Dan P. ended his set with a song about Philly and Dan came out and started playing the drums and Derek the keys/guitar
Also I still think there was at least a littttttle tension between the guys over the songs that made MSIT. It was all pure speculation based on that one interview they did on the couch, but it def seemed like Dan (and Derek) knew he wrote some great shit that should have probably been on the album over some Matt songs haha. I def think he was the driving force behind putting out the Broken Wing EP as its own thing instead of the usual bonus track bsides. I also think Broken Wing the song is about Matt. But hearing that and Burned Is the House at Dans show was awesome.
This was easily my favorite part of the show, after all these years seeing Dan and Derek still enjoying themselves makes me happy.
Wouldn't a good mix of their punk side and poppy side be something along the lines of Crimson? That's not a bad thing. I would personally like something a little more towards Infirmary or Good Mourning, but I'm down for whatever.
Dan definitely seemed rather annoyed by it. Broken Wing would have been great on the actual album and so would have been Sun Burns. Also, Pocket Knife should have made the album also.
