Yeah, it is kinda sad not seeing Dine Dine, Off the Map, or This Addiction. I've been heavily listening to This Addiction recently. I gotta be vibing right in order to listen to the album, but I still love it for what it is. I still cannot help but think how the album should have included Kicking Rocks and Those Lungs in the original track listing. I think it would have made the album a lot stronger and spiced it up a bit. Still excited to see them tomorrow night too. I don't care if its deep cuts or a hits setlist. Just so excited to see them playing again.
This Addiction is my main winter Trio album. I've been listening to it a lot lately as well. It's my least favorite Trio album, but it has some great stuff on it still. And you're absolutely right about Dan's bonus tracks.
Good Mourning is the quintisential winter album, not just for the Trio but OF ALL TIME Sorry got excited there.
I think I jam GM the most in October, but you’re right it definitely works in the winter too. Crimson is also a winter one for me. There’s something about that piano intro in Time to Waste that just vibes with the cold.
Last night was cool. Sound was a little funky the first song and a half, but it got better. This was literally my first time seeing these guys in full since The Metro in Chicago on Halloween when they recorded the show for the live DVD. I caught parts of their set at warped tour a couple times during the crimson/AI eras but didn’t stop to really take it in because I wanted to see other bands. -Derek seemed to be good last night. Was even showing off according to Dan lol. -I thought Matt sounded pretty good for the most part. Dan was fucking on point. -Matt kissed Dan on the cheek for New Years. -There was hardly any banter until the end. They were just pounding out song after song. -Setlist and crowd was not terrible at all. My fiancée, who only really knows songs from AI and MSIT has a freaking blast. She was dancing and was all smiles when Matt did his Skiba yells.
Man, I’m so jealous haha. I really hope I get to see them this year. I haven’t seen them since their tour with Bayside and Off With Their Heads in 2013. That was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I remember the setlist being incredible.
Has Matt's stage presence with Trio changed at all? I noticed that he was super energetic onstage with Blink which he never really did with his own band
Watching vids of the NYE show seems like any typical Trio show, doesn't act much differently than he ever did with them
I love Matt but sometimes it does bother when it appears he's not giving it his all. Especially when you see Dan and Derek go all out.
I don't think he's energetic with Blink at all. He stands there reading the teleprompter and barely moves.
Plenty of footage of him being energetic and plenty of him fucking up lines which shouldn't happen for a guy that just stands there and reads nonstop
The teleprompter annoys me. Does he use it for Alkaline Trio too. I heard he used it for the past live shows, but I don't recall seeing it when I have seen them live.
He obviously has trouble remembering lyrics. Not sure why that is but it's gotten worse over the years and I doubt he's happy about it so I don't give him shit for it. He didn't appear to have a prompter for the recent Trio shows as far as I can tell though
I mean the Past Live shows totally makes sense, although I don't recall him looking down that much or anything. Blink also makes sense but I also didn't notice it either times I saw him play with them and I was right on the barricade for both
Maybe I am just petty then idk. It's not like Blink and Alkaline lyrics are super complicated. I think getting paid what he did for Blink shows the least you can do is remember some lyrics. He wrote most of the Trio songs and sung them for years. Leave the teleprompter at home. If you screw something up, who cares. I'd rather hear an imperfect set (maybe move around a little more) than a step away from karaoke. That's just me. I love Alkaline Trio and I know I sound like a hater, but I just had to vent my opinion.
Yeah I mean he glances at it but he definitely doesn't just sit there and read lol. I'll go so far as to give him credit for not trying to hide that it's there, not like he's asked to make sure it doesn't show up on blink's social media cause it's plainly evident often. He could totally ask Travis' guy to not film his side of the stage on snapchat but he clearly doesn't care and obviously it opens him up to criticism. Which I'm glad to see really he hasn't gotten too much of far as I can tell.
