I am so glad we got recorded songs with him, but it’s a huge bummer he didn’t play on a full length. Very surprising and unexpected. I REALLY love the ep. Was hoping for a quick turnaround. I do agree their OG drummer wanting to come back seems like the most likely thing going on here.
I am going to zag from the group in here and guess either Neil Hennessy or Jarrod Alexander returning since he has familiarity and MCR isn't a full time commitment.
Neil could be interesting; dude’s got chops. Don’t know if I’d like Jarrod again. Great drummer, sure - but he took them down a notch musically. Not a slight on him; trying to fill-in for Derek takes a special kind of drummer.
Wasn’t Matt hinting that he was demoing new Alkaline Trio stuff for a new album? If Derek isn’t coming back, I wonder if Travis will lay down drum tracks for the album if Matt and Dan don’t want to wait around to start recording, especially if Travis is going to produce anyway.
Neil would be great. Jarrod (imo) did not have the secret sauce that Derek has to make Trio songs pop live. And honestly there were times Atom struggled to replicate Derek’s parts live. Curious who they get to replace Atom or if they realized Derek’s just the guy and they’ll work with him to make it work as a band.
Huge bummer - he was great in Trio I also am backing the Neil idea - can't really think of a better fit then him, Derek or Atom
Wtf. He was such an obvious fit that everybody guessed him before it happened. Wish we had a full length with him damn Trio FB would melt down if Travis does an album lol
Wondering about this too. Nate got snubbed on the new yellow card album in a similar way. Hope there’s no drama, but the post from Atom was a bit out of character and cryptic.
I mean Atom isn’t known to stay with bands for very long to begin with, so I wouldn’t say it’s out of character.
Absolutely gutted by this. He is the BEST. It reads to me like he signed on for Trio to be busier, thus creating more steady income. He plugs his session and touring availability alludes to his schedule suddenly opening up with his departure.
