i've only seen Covenant once, but within the 6 main films, it might be at the bottom. visuals are great, but the story didn't really do anything for me.
that's how i feel about SW, but that's a different conversation, and i'm not gonna get into it here lest the usual banter begin
Still like Covenant a lot. Likely my favorite after those first two, really seems to split the difference between the mythology and the terror.
that's a reasonable assessment. definitely gonna give it another shot soon. it's been a couple years, so maybe rewatching it with everything else will change things.
i did. in my Alien hierarchy, Alien and Aliens rotate between the first and second spots depending on the day, but Prometheus has always been third. far from perfect, but a fun time with some great acting and a reasonably intriguing premise. from my one viewing of Covenant, my big gripe was that it didn't do a ton to continue the story from Prometheus save for David and his experiments. maybe it handled it better than i remembered, but i went in expecting something with more connections to Prometheus, and it wasn't that.
I agree on your Covenant point. It grew on after a rewatch once I knew to take that expectation away. Definitely give it another shot!
Yeah, I think Prometheus was so divisive that they tried to find a balance between the current story and what audiences were actually looking for, and that just so happened to really work for me considering I love both the original films and Prometheus. Definitely report back if you revisit it!
Prometheus is definitely smarter than Covenant lol but that's okay, I'm more interested in the terror the intellectual aspects of this franchise.
The Alien movies (I haven't seen the versus ones) descend in quality in chronological order, with Alien being the best one and Covenant being the worst one.
Prometheus and Covenant just had the problem of bringing up questions and never answering them. He pulled a JJ Abrams on us.
