I've definitely watched Aliens more in my lifetime, and if you asked me when I was younger, I absolutely would have said Aliens is better - but I'm not sure I can commit to that when you factor in that Ridley Scott created the whole aesthetic and cinematic universe and everything
I can't confidently say Aliens is "better," but subjectively, I enjoy it more and reach for it more often.
Yep started it up last night. Looks absolutely incredible still and the space shots are just such an achievement. Cranked up the sound bar and subwoofer too. It’s crazy how Fox cooked in the vfx department yet they’re owned by Disney. Watched Deadpool & Wolverine the other day and it’s such a visually mid film esp compared to this lol.
Rewatched this with a buddy last weekend and just kind of confirmed what works for me and what doesn't. I definitely like it, I think it's pretty good, but I think there's a number of valid complaints to be had with it, too.
I watched this yesterday and was pretty disappointed. I’m sure it’s been discussed heavily but I don’t feel like reading through 40+ pages, but the digital Ian Holmes is just so ghoulish and looks like shit. Really hated the creature at the end too first 45 minutes or so is incredible though.
Yup rewatched this today and can firmly say this is my third favorite Alien film. Going to be pretty rewatchable too because it’s gorgeously shot in some parts
Watched on hulu friday night. Also thought this was visually great to look at. The ships and space in general looked awesome. It just left something to desire with the story/characters. Was a clear amalgamation of a bunch of the previous movies which I didnt care for personally.
It's strange because most of the pieces are awesome, but I agree, it kind of struggles to assemble them into its own identity and connects with me less as a whole than a worse film with a very strong and specific vision. It's still like a solid 7.5 for me, but it could have been great. Alvarez excels at directing really tense, and visual horror, so that's here in spades. But it feels like something is missing.
i guess this is a testament to how bad the projection at my local theater can be, but i just saw an HD screenshot of CGI Ian Holm and my God it looks awful! how did it somehow look better when i saw it in theaters? was it really that blurry?! like i still really enjoyed this movie, but they could've done anything else other than this.
this movie just worked for me I seriously think I had a stupid grin on my face the entire time just felt like it was absolutely firing on all cylinders
Really, really enjoyed this. Rewatched 1 and 2 before heading into this. I think Fede could’ve leaned into gross-out and gore a BIT more while still playing to the audience, but that’s just my preference.
