It is, unfortunately, not very good aside from Kristen Stewart, but her plus the big reveal makes it worthwhile.
Yeah the reveal in Underwater was pretty awesome. I’ve gone back to rewatch that scene a few times because the first time had me all giddy. The rest of the movie is just fine and not all that interesting
It feels like it's from a different movie lol, and I don't necessarily mean that as a negative. I think both the Alien(s) worship that comes before it and Alvarez's final act are both a ton of fun but I do feel there is a slight disconnect between the two
Inside Director Fede Álvarez’s Quest to Make ‘Alien: Romulus’ Interesting tidbit about a potential sequel in this paragraph.. Will Rain and Andy come across David? ‘But did Álvarez feel guilty for making a new “Alien” movie when the trilogy Scott had wanted to make with the “Prometheus” films has seemingly stalled out? “I did. And originally, my first intention, which we might figure out a way to do if we get to make another after this, is to merge them,” Álvarez noted (and, truth be told, there is a surprising amount of “Prometheus” nestled within “Alien: Romulus”). “I think that’s what I want to see. I never liked the idea that something got suspended and some stories were not really finished. And I think he really wants to also find a conclusion to some of the stuff he started with ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Covenant.’ But I’m one that wants to make sure that everything builds up to one big finale.”’
Prometheus underperformed so they reduced the budget for Covenant and it underperformed even more. Part of the reason Romulus succeeded is because it was sold as a stand-alone film, despite all the callbacks. They are not going to bog down the sequel with all of that. You are more likely to get a film without Rain and Andy than you are to get one with David.
I used to talk politics online years ago but it is just so depressing. It is much easier to disagree with someone about a movie than peoples' human rights.
I wanted to watch this and I realized that I could not remember any of the story or lore from any of the newer movies from Prometheus onward. so I re-watched Prometheus this morning. someone in here convince me that Ridley Scott, after having filmed an Alien movie, didn't decide in editing that he didn't really wanna make an Alien movie anymore and swapped out all of the things that made the movie make sense (which also happened to connect this movie to the other Alien movies) for random things unconnected to anything
ok maybe I'm too dumb or too smart but Prometheus made perfect sense to me? what did you find wasnt making sense?
honestly, the entire movie haha but admittedly, I am *extremely* rusty on Alien lore. I love Alien & Aliens and used to watch them over and over again when I was younger. I've seen the rest of the movies at least once. with Prometheus, it feels like the things that made the story and the characters make more sense to me were all cut out of the movie or changed. or, in the case of the Guy Pearce Ted Talk, never meant to actually be in the movie at all. just one small example would be, why change the design of the zombie guy to make him look less Alien-like?
what i think is most interesting is, I've seen a theory pop up that the xenomorphs actually predate the engineers based on some murals they found on the planet. but yeah idk I'm not that deep into the lore, like, made sense enough to me. I know about them changing zombie guy's head, but don't know why obvs.
it feels like the movie jumps thru narrative hoops to ensure we get the surprised reveal that Guy Pearce is still alive, when it really makes the whole movie more engaging if we just know he's alive and old AF but also rich AF and spending ungodly amounts of wealth in a desperate attempt to meet his makers or cheat death or whatever I will say that Prometheus is a much better movie than I remember giving it credit for, albeit one with some pretty foundational flaws I feel like so many directors would absolutely KILL for a cast like Ridley Scott assembled here
I think Prometheus works better as a film that takes place in the Alien universe with different creatures and beings featured that introduces something new to the lore and slowly transitions into Covenant, which kind of splits the difference between something like that and Aliens. That's actually what makes the Scott films so interesting to me. He was expanding the universe while attempting to bring the story full circle.
The opening of the engineer drinking black goo and dying is what created life on earth? But why? Why did he do that? Did he know he would die?
