I mean the fact it was so accepted in 1979 that they thought people would be puffing away on a space ship right after waking up from a freeze is just funny to me. I get why, just seems comical in that situation with our current attitude towards it. Im actually 37 :( and sure, i know plenty of smokers and my (our?) generation has a higher % than a decade younger, but nothing compared to people who are 50 + now. It just felt odd to have included it that it was funny to me. It was a 'here's what people do now, so surely they'll do it in the future in space' moment that turned out to be so off the mark.
You can use that logic to criticize any movie set in the future. Slang and speech, costumes, social standards. In 1979 no one could have predicted long-term tobacco usage trends.
You are correct. I just found that an amusing aspect while experiencing this movie for the first time in 2024. And i meant absurd as in funny, not as in why didnt they know about the dangers of tobacco? Excited for the rest of the franchise and to see this new one when all caught up. Im sure ill like Aliens as im a big James Cameron fan. I suppose ill have to watch predator too.
lol people in 2024 thinking we wont invent a cancer vaccine so we can get back to puffin the good stuff
I haven't seen the versus movies, but it is maybe the most fascinating franchise. The films are very director driven, and it features directors with radically different ideas and techniques. Scott himself is a different person in 1979 versus 2012. They never feel phoned in like Jurassic Park 5 or Terminator 6.
The alien solos films I’ve seen are good. Prometheus and Covenant are a little obnoxious. AvP Requiem was one of the worst films I’ve seen in a theater.
I love the optimism, thinking there won't be a large amount of people who will reject the cancer vaccine.
As excited as I Am for this, I really wanted the next Ridley movie that was hopefully gonna go full circle and tie into the original. Now that David was set up with his hosts and embryos, i was excited to see what the next step was/where he ended up
Any interest i had in the lore Scott was building up went out the window when he killed off the Engineers in a throwaway flashback. It was like watching a giant eraser go across the screen.
It does feel like there was supposed to be a different film there but when people didn't like Prometheus, that all went out the window.
yeah that I did hate BUT iirc, that wasn’t all of them no? Wasn’t that their home planet and I thought David said they set off to find the other outposts but crashed/ran out of fuel?
well, get on that. Alien vs. Predator is fun. Requiem is horrendous. I am an Alien 3, Prometheus, and Covenant defender for sure.
Saw it in theaters a few years ago and it was amazing. Same with Aliens (that one was a private screening during Covid times)
at least once. go for the Assembly Cut of 3. it's supposedly better than the theatrical cut. while it's nowhere near my favorite in the series, i personally kinda liked Resurrection.
