So I really didn’t think this was the member berries call-back extravaganza a lot of negative reviews made it out to be.
Loved this. Only major complaint is the deepfake Ian Holm, which just didn't look great. Loved the eerie opening, the production and set designs, the bounty of practical effects work, David Jonsson's performance, all the set pieces, the bonkers final sequence. Xenomorphs look as great as they ever have. All the visuals of the station colliding with the ring were awesome. Alien Prometheus Aliens Romulus Covenant Alien 3 Resurrection I could probably swap Alien/Prometheus and Aliens/Romulus on any given day, but this is where I'm at now. Watched the entire series last week. The visuals in Prometheus hold up remarkably well. I love that movie. They ventured to find God and the answers to life, only to discover that God hates them and wants to eradicate them. A terrifying conceit for a movie.
I just got done watching Prometheus and I thought it was great! Just kinda weird that the computers and UI seem newer than in Alien but whatever
Loved this. Spaeny is (has always been) a star. Jonsson was wonderful in Rye Lane but couldn’t have known he had this in him - acting as Good Andy would’ve been a feat of its own even without the remarkbly calculated shift in mannerisms to Bad Andy. Also naming an android “Andy” is the good kind of dumb shit I adore lol It’s very funny to me how quickly I am to hate on poor CGI while praising the fuck out of a practical face hugger whose legs don’t even move when it walks lol. For real though, Rook looked like shit. Personally, as a fan, I love to be serviced. There are sequels in other franchises that would be absolutely nothing without those moments and this is not one of them. The “get away” line is a little out of place but the way it’s delivered in such a stifled tone with the big pause made me laugh. But there had to have been ways to pay homage to Ash without doing… that Out of his films I’ve seen, Alvarez is really good about getting to the point. Yeah it took a little longer here because there were so many mechanics to be set up for later use, but the payoffs all fucking rule. If I felt any fatigue by the time we finally got to the hybrid then it was only because the movie was constantly leading us from one exciting sequence to the next. Felt good to get such action packed horror in a time when so much horror feels congested with camp or tension (not a bad thing, this was just refreshing) Art criticism is a positive thing and this website can be particularly weird and shut down-y when it comes to discussing or pointing out things about a movie/album that the majority of a thread have decided is good or fun
Was gonna post that in the TLOU HBO thread but it’s kinda a spoiler if your not familiar with the second game and watching the new season
Also someone already posted it in here but this is such a good article and the reason why Covenant is so interesting and overlooked. Michael Fassbender Gave Alien Covenant Two of 2017's Best Performances
Depressed as fuck today so I’m going to go see this for a third time instead of the other three films I want to go see, two of which I missed out on last night.
