Same complaints but such a blast and so well done I can overlook them. The red lighting is so effective throughout the film and the “hell” they’re going through.
This was solid, but yea, not on the level of the first 2 still (not that that’s a realistic expectation), and not as shocking/intense as his Evil Dead. Really fun though. Wasn’t expecting the 3rd act.
Alien vs. Predator is fun and good, don't see the problem. This is also fun and good. Wish the hybrid looked more like a xenomorph, tho
I so badly want to complain about fan service but god damn I really had so much fun and thought this rocked. The final 20 minutes were fucking incredible imo.
Overall I enjoyed it and thought it was a good ride once it got going. Andy was the best and I'm going to have to see what else the actor has done because I'm not sure I've seen him in anything before. I would put it #3 for me after Alien and Aliens as I'm not very big into the others as anything other than schlock fun. That said, the fan service and Rook shit was kind of annoying and took me out and it was never really all that scary I had to say. And some of the scenes telegraphed shit a bit too much that I knew what was about to happen too soon. But it's mostly just minor quibbles on the whole. The old couple next to me fucking jumped at everything it was so funny to watch them lmao.
The only part I didn’t like was the first 20-25 mins or so. That’s when the characters felt most cookie cutter and when it was most obvious we were just speedrunning exposition in order to get to the xenomorph. After the first facehugger scene, this thing was a BLAST.
Also, I haven’t gotten to it yet but I guess Fede Alvarez explains it a bit during his Big Picture interview. the only thing I could think of was that it was some kind of meta commentary on some of the themes of humanity and artificial intelligence, etc. haven’t fleshed this out but it still put a pit in my stomach when it first happened.
Was really with this until I just… wasn’t, haha. Still had a fun time overall. Lots of things I really enjoyed— the first act, the production design and practical effects, Spaeny and Jonsson and their characters’ relationship. For me, minor fan service and callbacks are all well and good, but it gets to a point that they’re just distracting. I didn’t even really mind the “Rook” stuff at first, so much as I was surprised that we’re still kind of in this era of… “resurrection.” I feel like there’s a way they could have pulled this off and have it felt earned, but when he started repeating classic lines, I had to roll my eyes a bit. And that was emblematic of how I felt with the references wholesale. Speaking of Resurrection… wasn’t expecting that material to be pulled from in any real way, haha. Like I said, all that aside, I had a fun time. I’ve seen some reviews calling it a “Greatest Hits” Alien movie, and I don’t disagree with that— you know the songs on here and if you like them, you like them. But as it turned towards the third act, I felt things ran out of steam a bit, and I expected a little more from this than what we ended up getting.
Won't be seeing this til it's not in theaters unfortunately, but FX is marathoning all the Alien movies today except Aliens which is really weird to me.
methinks it's rights stuff? i think Hulu just got back rights to stream the film. idk how it works on TV.
