potentially planning on finishing our series watchthrough tomorrow (minus the AvP films, which i've never seen and don't want to, tbh). they're playing Romulus next Thursday so we're also gonna try to snag tix if possible.
i won't go into specifics but having watched that now I don't know what exactly that was spoiling lol
As Aaron knows, I just recently did a full run on all Alien movies in anticipation of Romulus and I echo his sentiments on the first AvP. It’s a fun time for what it is!
I even went for extra credit and watched Requiem which I would strongly advise against. Complete opposite of any fun to be had with the first one.
Not sure if those should be considered spoilers, I thought we all assumed there would be more than one xeno?
I don’t know why you’d lie about watching Requiem. We’re all supposed to just believe that you’re the one person in existence that is able to watch it? Please peddle those lies somewhere else.
i will say, one thing that's always irritated me about films with alternate cuts (some of which are better than the theatrical versions) is that they're not frequently found on streaming services. for both AvP films, is it worth it to go unrated over theatrical? because if so, i'll have to find a good way to watch them since Hulu only has theatrical
last month it was on freevee or one of those shitty apps and I threw it on. I noped out in about 12 minutes. early 2000s was such an awful blockbuster era.
Doubtful for the AvP films. I just watched whatever was on streaming and heard nothing about any other versions. It definitely won't matter enough for those movies
It definitely won't matter for Requiem, which you truly should steer clear of even as a completist lol. I haven't seen AvP unrated, but the theatrical is perfectly fine. you sound allergic to fun!
If you haven’t, highly recommend the deep dive episodes for the Alien franchise from Halloweenies. The AVP Requiem episode is wild.
finished up our series rewatch last night and also secured tix for a Thursday night showing of Romulus next week. i don't think it's changed, but here's a pre-Romulus ranking of the core 6 films (all of which i love). Alien Aliens Prometheus Alien: Resurrection Alien: Covenant Alien³ expecting Romulus to slide in between Aliens and Prometheus, but i'm intrigued by the prospect of it ranking even higher
Resurrection above Covenant is fucking craaaaazy haha but to each their own! Very distinctly different movies
Alien Aliens Covenant Prometheus 3 Resurrection I almost ranked 3 higher tbh and I think that if I ever catch the Assembly Cut and its as good as most say it is, it would bump up closer to the first 2. Resurrection is a blast tho, but its complete freefall into b movie territory detracts when compared to most of the others.
i unironically love the campiness of Resurrection, as well as the gore. i also love the horror elements and gore in Covenant (probably the best gore in the series thus far), but the story was just not as engaging as i hoped it would be. despite having only seen the Assembly Cut, i can assure you that it's a good watch. the only reason why 3 ranks at the bottom isn't because it's a bad movie (i do like all 6 core films), but because tonally i wasn't the biggest fan of its darker, more insular storytelling style compared to the other films (that and the poorly rotoscoped wire puppet).
