the funniest marketing strat imo I’ve been seeing lately is “our movie is so scary that the audience threw up in an early screening” or the Maika Monroe’s elevated heart rate being recorded when seeing her costars costume for the first time for Longlegs. extremely eye roll inducing conversely, to me bragging about practical effects feels more like communication to a certain demographic about what type of film was made. Iirc you’ve had many horror film makers discuss such a thing even decades ago. on some level it is simply discussion of the craft and especially relevant for the culture of the genre. you have people early in this very thread before we knew many details who have been enthusiastic to chat about it.
CG can be perfectly fine, but of course it's exciting to have an Alien movie that uses majority practical effects
They did a chest burster on stage after having animatronic facehuggers crawling around. Then they gave facehugger masks to everyone in attendance.
been going through the whole series with my partner's coworker the past couple months (whenever we can get together). watched 3 last week and are planning on watching Resurrection tomorrow.
i've seen all 6 before (some multiple times and others just once). the first two are unmatched, at least until Romulus. 3 was actually my least favorite at the time (tied with or right behind Covenant), but watching it again made me appreciate the story being told despite its vastly different tone (this goes for the Assembly Cut, i haven't bothered watching the theatrical cut).
I always feel like I wanna watch 3 but never do idk how I forgot to mention I’ve seen Covenant, I think I’ve talked about that one some here before
my biggest gripe with 3 is the poor rotoscoping of the Xenomorph wire puppet. it's a really cool concept in theory, but every time it's supposed to look like it's lurking out of the shadows/juxtaposed against a somewhat dark background, there's this gross-looking greenish hue that makes it look incredibly fake.
Killing off Newt is borderline unforgivable, but if you can somehow look past that, 3 has a really cool story to tell and is better than you'd expect, even if it's not great/nowhere near the first two films.
