Last trailer really gives me the new Evil Dead vibes. The camera movement is fucking awesome. Plus most companies truly don’t commit to the additional advertising set pieces (popcorn bucket!) unless they think a movie has the juice. I’m all in.
I am loving that they going out of their way to avoid green screens and building practical sets instead.. I bet the budget is in the $100 millions because of it
I much prefer as little CGI as possible in movies, but Oppenheimer last year suffered because of it, mainly due to how lame the nuke explosion ended up looking (like they blew up some TNT and that was it)
I’m still shocked whenever people say that the nuke explosion was lame - like I’m not sure what else people were expecting lol. Incredible movie moment imo but to each their own
I was expecting an image on the screen that looked like a nuclear explosion - what we got instead was what I would expect a pile of TNT would look like being blown up. It didn't fill me with any awe or wonder, like I assumed seeing the first nuclear explosion ever would give someone. They could have used some CGI there and most people wouldn't have noticed, imo
I appreciate practical effects but the whole “look how little CGI there is in our movie!” thing is silly lately since a lot of it comes down to time and money. Plenty of fantastic CGI out there.
A good movie with no CGI A GREAT movie WITH CGI I think the first three words of each of those choices are the only ones that matter?
marketing is marketing, it’s often silly. BUT this specific one can be effective at signifying “we have set design artists with good taste”. lately many larger movies that use a lot of cgi commonly look bad. studios can’t always commission talent with good taste.
My biggest fear going into Oppenheimer was that Matt Damon was going to be ridiculous but he was balanced and nuanced.
im just more suspect of this kind of marketing lately after Corridor posted this video about how studios are editing BTS footage to hide green screens and other elements to make them look more practical. It just feeds into this notion of practical = good, cgi = bad. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/qFKB5slTnfg
