I tried to explain that the movie features two androids (both played by Fassbender) play flute, kiss each other on the mouth and then fight each other with karate to a friend and he wouldn't believe me.
In the theater. There's a nice family a few rows ahead of me. Two of those kids look like their only 11/12. This should be interesting.
Thought this was very disappointing. The pacing just felt off throughout the entire film. One other part that really bothered me was the "twist". I knew David was going to kill Walter once they cut away from Walter about to bash in David's head. I mean Walter survived that stick to the neck or whatever that was, but we are supposed to believe a little knife killed him? And then David had time to burn his hand off and change suits before chasing them down? The part where Daniels' character is hanging off the chain trying to shoot the Xenomorph looked lame. The elaborate schemes they would come up with just to get rid of one alien took too long. I kept waiting for a climactic point to come, but it never did.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole first landing/infection scene. That part where the zenomorph(?) burst through the dudes mouth was fucking terrifying. As was the white alien in general. I also personally didn't have any issues with the pacing. That android fight was kinda short, and I thought it was gonna be more interesting.
I do agree about the last act on the ship being kinda ridiculous with how much work they were trying to get rid of the xeno. Plus the reveal was lame, but I loved his ending. So creepy/epic when he threw up the embryos.
I'm confused as to why everyone's complaining about their convoluted plan to kill the xenomorph. They knew its blood was acid and the ship was not as tall as the Nostromo; if any of that blood leaked out they would've been screwed. They had to make sure they lured it somewhere they could shoot it out into space from. Granted, they could have tried to lure it into the room they shot James Franco's corpse out of, but still. They couldn't shoot it, is the point. I had my own problems with the film but that scene was not one of them.
It was more that she seemed to figure out exactly what she was gonna do way too quickly. Then it resolved way too quickly. Like it was very climatic I guess. Though I loved the ending after that so it's fine.
Did I miss the part from the trailers where the xenomorph is jumping between that hallway, and then pounces towards the camera?Or did it not make the cut I wonder
This. She came up with the perfect plan in seconds and executed it to perfection. There was no tension or suspense. It felt like Ridley Scott just wanted to go home early that day and rushed it
It's not perfect, but I had fun with it and definitely enjoyed it more than Prometheus. I think it has to be my favorite since Aliens by default.
People keep referring to the ending as a twist, but everything in the movie tells you that that is what happened, from David cutting his hair, to his look of delight at the number of colonists, to the shot of him picking up the knife. It is basic cinematic language. After Prometheus, it was possible to defend it under the idea that we would get to see Shaw with the Engineers in the next film, and then they write all of that off in a flashback. For all of Scott's delusions of telling an Old Testament film, he wants to just keep remaking Alien over and over.
I just saw this and really liked it honestly. I feel like this was what Prometheus should have been but still felt a lot like an Alien film. This cast is so fucking good. Especially Fassbender and Waterston.
The standout for me was Amy Seimetz. That entire sequence with her and the first guy that got infected was my favorite scene of the movie. Plus it led right into everyone getting attacked in the wheat fields. The movie was good, but I wish it was all as great as the build up of the first act.
I think Ridley Scott honestly wants to add a God complex to the series and with this, it makes sense. Prometheus was about finding God, interacting with your maker. That was the driving point of the film. This was basically Creation and what defines God or what makes one a God. The next one will surely be the consequences of playing God, along with explaining why the ship crashed on the planet the OG Alien crew went to investigate.
I think the end game here is Walter is going to be the catalyst for the original Alien xenomorph. The protomorph variation featured at the end of the movie is very similar to the original alien, but is more natural looking and has less mechinal physical characteristics. When all is said and done, I think Walter will get infected with a facehugger, and eventually give birth to the xenomorph from the original.
