Legacy bands are truly incapable of making merch that doesn’t honk…just re-print your classic designs and let the money flow. Might have to pick up the vinyl soon
Can’t get God Am’s main riff out of my head this week, so much fun to play too. I was never huge on self-titled until recently, mostly due to how subdued the vocals are compared to Dirt and Facelift but it is really clicking recently. Such a haunting album.
Hot take: S/T is their masterpiece. I have so much goddamn respect for a band at their level of commercial success at that time doing something so twisted and strange. The production is flawless. It's just about perfect.

giving the self titled a 5 am jam and this is for sure my fav these days, their most creative batch of songs. frogs particularly, that chorus is incredible, but the shame in you/god am combo is just as killer
Mad Season might be my favourite album of the whole genre tbh. River of Deceit is unbelievable, so is Black Book of Fear from the bonus tracks (with Peter Buck on guitar btw)
woah thats crazy lol. that song is goddamn incredible, very glad i sprung for the deluxe edition i could see it becoming that one day for me, the self titled album being my pick atm i feel like doesnt reflect too well on how i am processing existence haha, unfortunately very much an album i need these days
slip away is so gorgeous, hot take to say in this thread im sure lol but all these mark songs are as good as the main album tracks if not better
I've been saying that for years haha, they're very obscure unfortunately but goddamn that second album would have been incredible. Locomotive is an absolute ripper
never checked out the unplugged before and damn this is great stuff too. kinda surprised by how well sludge factory translates but that ones fantastic. generally bigger on the self titled (really goddamn good version of frogs) and jar of flies arrangements than the dirt ones but down in a hole is gorgeous there
no excuses is as good as it gets, such classic songwriting there perfectly woven into their sound. such a good bassline too shame in yous another great example of the way that like 60s and 70s chordal and melodic influence fit its way perfectly into their later sound with layne. that song is probably the lyrical highlight in their discog
maybe my two favourite Alice songs right there lol also re Unplugged I think the Sap songs get the biggest upgrade just because the originals sound so flat and are basically demos. Unplugged Got Me Wrong is god level
i can back that for sure, really killer version of that song. tbh the only tracks that dont really translate for me are some of the dirt ones but i also think i woulda picked different songs for them to have done off that. rain when i die coulda been monumental
Fairly recent AIC convert here though thus far have only checked out Facelift, Dirt and Jar. I did not realise Mad Season was a supergroup. Always assumed they were a lower-tier band from the era like Candlebox.
