Yea I think it’s there on Dog’s blood and Otherness as well. Both feel like the band had new things they wanted to try and just went for it. Though I think the band has always just made whatever they wanted. No release is really the same as the last.
Self-titled rips. I was really into the sorta chaotic energy of At the Drive-In, Thursday, and MCR’s I Brought You My Bullets when I first heard it and it def scratched that same itch for me For as much as parts were Frankenstein’d together, it works and makes for an engaging ride. I also don’t think Jesse’s drumming gets enough credit for helping establish the feel of each song
Also it’s too bad the remaster seems to be the only version of that record available on streaming. The original not sounding as clean was more fitting imo
The remaster being the only thing online is so frustrating. I hate the mix and the echo effects they seem to have added to Dallas’s voice to make it more prominent. It’s too bad the CD I bought of it way back when is scratched to hell. I always think about the drums in Counterparts. They feel ripped out of a jazz album and give the song a smooth feel. The also feel lower in the mix on the remaster than I remember.
season of the flood is probably my favorite thread in between the post rocky expansiveness and their current sonic aesthetics. top 10, if not 5 aof song for me
Each of those singles is top-tier for me. I think they fit really well into the middle of the Otherness tracklist and help keep the energy going when that album loses some of its momentum.
the middle of otherness is arguably my favorite run in their discog so idk if i can cosign that lol. blue spade -> dark night of the soul -> mistaken information is one of my favorite runs of all time. you could throw season right behind those and itd still flow okay though i used to listen to season as the opener of otherness right before committed since it loops around well from world stops turning, but now i mostly just jam it as is since i primarily jam physicals now
Oh fucking shit I don’t need to go to Toronto anymore Wednesday is not ideal but I’ll take it over the 2+hr each way journey
damn I wish this was happening closer to me, Crisis was my gateway into this band and while I'd probably put Watch Out a little higher now, this would be so much fun to see live in full.
Only Crisis songs I haven't heard live are We Are The End, Keep It On Wax, and To a Friend. From the 2 times I've seen them. 2007-09ish and 2022. Rough Hands in 2022 was a GIFT to hear. I would love to see this in full. Buffalo is a long way from Alabama......
