The mix on the new live album is pretty bad unfortunately. They usually sound so much better than that in concert.
That show was incredible - I’d never seen em live before, let alone a home show, but it’s been a loooong time since I’ve been in a crowd that rough. Good to see the elder emos can still move. Crazy to me too that the crowd was just as wild for newer stuff, even slower songs.
This popped up in my recommendations and now I’m gonna have to revisit Watch Out! for the first time in a while. Pretty great quality for being filmed in 2004 at some random record store.
dude that video is awesome, and it is really crazy how good it sounds and looks compared to most stuff like this from that era.
This is around the time I saw them for the first time (of 17?). Obviously I love the records but the biggest reason they're an all-time band for me is just how good they are live.
This is rad, especially considering I've pretty much never watched performances with their original drummer
there's a pretty shocking amount of excellent full sets from the Jesse era on YT this one is a personal favorite (dude has more on his channel)
Ratbeard is great, but I’ve always kind of missed what Jesse brought to the band. His drumming style was so unique and helped guide some of the slower, moodier aspects of their first two albums.
Literally no contest, still one of the best bands we've ever seen live. The passion of the early days was unravelled. Similar to how I felt going to a Rise Against gig back in the day.
They’re still one of the absolute best and tightest live bands today, Dallas is a 1 of 1 live vocalist Wish I could say the same for Rise Against
Unfortunately they sound much weaker live now which is a shame as they were incredible back in the day though. Alexis has kept a consistent live performance.
I’ve been spinning Live at Copps. Such an incredible live album. I think one of my biggest regrets is not finding a way to go to one of the farewell tour shows. Obviously I’m glad it wasn’t permanent, but those shows looked insane.
Been doing a discography run through. I always forget what a bizarre record the self titled is. I still love it, but it’s clear there’s a lot of slapping my together of parts that sound cool to make a song. I do kind of love that about it. It gives it such a chaotic feel, but every song still feels authentic even if the song writing is unpolished.
I especially love how much the post-rock and screamo influences seeped into their sound on it. It's something they deviated from as they started writing much more structured and straightforward stuff.
Those influences are there, but it still feels like they managed to make something wholly their own. It’s weird to say, because they definitely became better song writers as time went on, but I do miss that willingness to just get lost in these weird instrumentals.
I feel like that loosier side of them came back a bit on Dog's Blood, albeit with different influences.
