I think it more so has to do with the sound the band is going for. Doubtful they're using similar equipment they used on those albums from a decade ago. Nor are they pushing the lead riffs separately from the rhythm guitar much. Vocals seemed to be up to par with OCYC to me. I admittedly do like Familar Drugs more, but this is still solid. Really liked the drumming on this.
Finally listening for the first time. I LOVE this song. Way more immediate than FD for me.. But yeah the mixing isn’t just subpar, it’s awful lol.. I will be listening to this a lot though. It rules.
Yea, I know what you mean. I feel like I know what they're going for, but I keep wanting to hear more of what's happening. But even a questionable mix can't ruin a good song. I'm digging both of these new ones.
New song slays but echoing everyone else here the mix unfortunately let’s it down massively, same with FD.
After listening to this a few times and falling in love with it more it seems like this might be a sonic and thematic sequel to “Heading for the Sun”. Complicit meaning it’s no longer us vs them but things have come to ahead where we’re all at fault for the damage to our environment and the rampant spread of capital that causes it. You can sing the chorus for “Heading for the Sun” over the bridge. Or maybe it’s just a nice song from a very good band.

I’m not going to be able to make it to the AOF show in LA on the 13th - if anyone wants my ticket I’ll sell it at face value ($40) lemme know
Bummer that you can’t make it man... that’s the show I’m going to. I already have my ticket, but will let you know if someone I know is looking for one.
Crazy to think in a few days I and many others will see this band headline again and play a new song. High school me is pretty stoked.
That’s fair haha. Adult me is also pumped don’t get me wrong. This band always takes me back to my first job in high school at a go-kart, mini golf, bumper boats kind of place. I used to work the laser tag and could play my own music. Watch Out used to get a lot of run. Something about George’s scream with their fast parts always sounded cool to me running around a neon lit room shooting people with laser guns.
