Production is fine. It's obvious the guys, Dallas and Wade probably most of all, are way more into these fuzzy/heavy/wall of sound type bands than anything else and they want to translate that type of aesthetic to their own music also. This is what they want it to sound like and I think it's rad
I’m sorry but this is light years away from Crisis level of production and mixing (at least for me!).
That was interesting. With Familiar Drugs starting out as an idea they had around Dog's Blood, and now this one actually originating from Young Cardinals' demo, it makes me wonder what else they've had in stock pre-break up that they might have repurposed. I'm thinking about the heavier stuff they were working on after Dallas left, even though I remember hearing that Wade brought some of that over for Gallows.
Are we listening to the same song? Haha. The production isn’t anywhere close to the same. You can say you like how this song sounds sure but no it doesn’t sound like crisis.
Mix aside, Reverse the Curse may be my favorite AOF song post-Crisis. I can’t stop listening to it. It’s a crying fucking shame that I need lyrics to understand what Dallas is singing during the chorus, though. His vocals should be HUGE there.
Steele and George say in the interview that the song is a throwback to Crisis. If this is the case, why wouldn’t the production also be aimed at this? Why are y’all so eager to dispute the band’s decisions?
Anyways this record is 2/2 for me, highest anticipated of the year. I can’t wait to learn all the words and sing like a maniac in Nashville when they play.
Nobody is disputing the band's decision to roll with the fuzz. We're simply stating we prefer the mixes on past albums.
Yeah like I frankly don’t care what the band has to say about this or what they intended, but the production on this does not sound like Crisis and it doesn’t sound good lol
Haha well because the mix on this sounds terrible and doesn’t on crisis? Because you can hear Dallas on crisis and not on this? I’m not the only one who feels this way. You can enjoy the production all you want but to say it sounds like crisis is just plain incorrect and it’s not even close.
even coming from someone that doesnt mind the production/mix and thinks that dallas is much more audible than most are suggesting, i dont think it sounds like crisis production wise at all lol
Even if Alexis is 100% all the way on this new sound, there’s no denying personally that it’s a bit too subjective and not as accessible than say Crisis. I’ve loved everything that they’ve done but I can’t help but feel that the production / mixing isn’t ideal here.
This new sound is very intentional. I love it, but I could see fans of their older material missing Dallas being up front more.
