As a guitarist, this album is probably the stuff I'd write if I was literally jamming with my friends.
god this is so good it's making me want to try oc/yc. haven't listened to that since the day it came out
But why? ;D it was such a good album, not all of it clicked right away, but it was easier to get into (at least I was sure of that)
I get it then. Definitely try it one more time if you like this new one now, there's still lots of parallels I think, despite changing the whole sound up a lot.
Even the songs I was lukewarm on have come around. Conditional Love didn’t do a ton for me on first listen, but now I think it’s one of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever written. I find myself going “Ooh Ooh” with Wade every time it comes up in the chorus.
Only played 3 songs from this at their big hometown show last night :/ I know they got lots of bangers to play but they should at the very least get survivor’s guilt added imo
i really wish i could get into this album, especially since I'm from Toronto and practically grew up listening to the band. It just does nothing for me and I still can't stand Dallas. That being said it does make me happy that everyone is loving this so much
Committed to the Con would be sweet live. I would love to see them add at least two more. Maybe Blue Spade and Survivor's Guilt.

In my opinion it is pretty cool that this band released their magnum opus 20+ years into their career.
I don't quite know if it tops Watch Out! for me just yet... but this is already above Crisis and OCYC for me. Blue Spade and World Stops Turning are top 10 (if not top 5) alexis tracks.
I could reasonably say that Watch Out altered my taste in music, and it still holds up today. I don’t think I could love an AoF album more than I do that one, but this record just feels like such a statement. It’s the band coming back after a hiatus and somehow firing on all cylinders; a comeback record of magnitudes that I really cannot believe they pulled off. When they announced the album I was excited but they had kind of fallen off my radar and I thought at best it would just be fun to listen to new stuff from a band I used to adore.
Yep, I was expecting to like the album, but I didn't expect to be so happy with it on first listen. And since then it's just grown and grown on me. I keep trying to put it down and check out some other music, but then I convince myself to just listen to one song... and then next thing I know I've finished the album again. What's more impressive is that feels like a fresh sound for them too. Definitely closer to what they were doing with OC/YC and Dog's Blood than anything from the first three albums, but there are a ton of new wrinkles in the sound that I was not expecting at all.
