Thoughts on this album is that I need more listens to fully decide on if I'm yay or nay on it. I absolutely hate to be the fan who pines for the old style of any given band, but I think if I'm giving my true early opinions, I just am. I miss the intricate tappy guitar work, and a bit more of the chaos and immediacy of the older stuff. This style is more of a fuzzy, grungy kind of driving dirty rock. It may grow on me though and i get that this style was already on their last album (to a degree, this is still a departure even from that).
Halfway through and I enjoy it well enough, but nothing amazing, except for "Sans Soleil", what a fantastic track that is, it's everything I want this band to be.
Only had time for two spins so far but this is really gonna be a major favorite for 2022. I feel like most of my favorite albums this year have been punk / “fun” records, so while I knew I would enjoy this I did not expect to be so enamored with it right from the get go.
Has anybody received their vinyl from Newbury or even gotten a shipping update? I haven’t heard a thing about it yet and am getting serious FOMO right now.
I didn’t order from Newbury, but for what it’s worth I never got any shipping updates at all for mine that I ordered from the band’s store… was wondering if it was coming and then it delivered today.
Blue Spade ratcheting up the list of my fav AOF songs at unheard speeds. Need to know who wrote the lyrics for that one, some of the best they've ever done
I’ve been preoccupied with Coheed but I’m checking this out now and like it a lot. Very cool Dallas went all in with this, seems like it’d be easy for someone like him with such a successful solo career to phone this in, but he sounds better than he ever has.
apple music track by track mentions chris starting to contribute lyrics for the first time with this album. dallas apparently took some stuff he’d written and turned it into the chorus
Can’t say I dislike this album. I like it more initially than yc/oc. Feels like some mix of crisis and yc/oc which is better than no new AOF. But is it just me or does it feel weird to have George be so low in the mix in some songs? Feels like Dallas’ vocals take over completely in some songs. I know they have always played off each other with Dallas getting a lot of the chorus work, but George feels sidelined in a lot places.
OC/YC is my favorite Alexisonfire record but yeah.. the way the vocals are mixed is not my vibe. I still enjoy this record but I do wish the vocals were less buried.
If The Eagles wrote a post hardcore song in the year of our lord 2022, this is what it would sound like.
