Alexisonfire will release their new album, Otherness, on June 24th. Today the’ve shared the lead single “Sweet Dreams of Otherness.” The talked with SPIN about their return:

“I just don’t understand why anyone would do it,” MacNeil wonders aloud. “We’ve been given the opportunity where people are actually listening, but what are we going to do with that? I’m going to make something that’s odd and try and work with artists and people on the record that can help elevate that and push it in a different direction. The fact that someone’s listening is an opportunity to do something bizarre and cool. And any band that uses an opportunity to go middle of the road? I just don’t know why they’re a band.”

    Dumb guy

I am always excited for new music from these guys. The quote is interesting because I feel like this song is actually fairly middle of the road by their standards. Compared to previous AoF songs it does not have a particularly interesting structure or anything that really stands out to me. I like it, but it feels more safe than bizarre to my ears.

George just cracks me up in that photo for some reason.

Let's get these people moving faster!

My impression is that was in reference to the album as a whole, and not the single itself - which I agree, doesn't really jump out as different from their catalogue (which I'm fine with independent of the quote). But even so, I'll reserve my expectations, as Wade is the type to maybe blow smoke a bit about their music/approach.

This was such an amazing thing to wake up too. Such a consistently good band with quality of music and maximum effort.

    D'oh! Prestigious

Solid! Well I do hope there's some bizzare stuff and lots of good vocals from all three of them! The press photo got my attention for a moment there, boy did they change! ;d George looking a bit like one of the Ramones in that video clip.

I mean this song is a sonic wall of distortion and groove and droning and rock and fucking roll. Song is so good

Haha I know! My first thought also was they got Tommy Wiseau to join Alexisonfire!
