Rules was my gateway into Alex G but I think that's kind of a weird album for him considering Trick, DSU, and Beach Music. Rules feels a lot more subdued to me than all of those, except maybe DSU, but even that one feels different
Bumping this thread because A) I didn't know it existed and B) I've pretty much shuffled his discography on a weekly basis since last summer. His music has done so much for my anxiety, takes me to a specific place and time and helps me to relax. I still need to dive into the B-sides and anything before Rules. My ranking would look something like this (although I thoroughly enjoy all of them): Beach Music House of Sugar Rocket DSU Trick Rules
Bumping again because I've been listening to his first album, Race, and a fan compilation, High, on Youtube almost every day for the past few weeks. Such a prolific songwriter.
His songs feature pretty prominently in the Netflix series Flaked (which was overall a pretty dumb show but had a fantastic soundtrack) Still can't get quite behind the Sandy Alex G name, its awkward There exists a video of him and his band playing the entire self-titled Third Eye Blind album front to back, its actually pretty great
He used Sandy because a YouTube musician who went by the name Alex G caused confusion so he had to differentiate. Now that musician had changed their name I believe so that is why he reverted back to just Alex G.
