Thanks so much! For less of the weird stuff, I definitely recommend Rocket. More country-leaning, too.
I love this track. Parts of it sounds like it could fit comfortably in the Drive soundtrack. The distorted vocals especially remind me of Nightcall from it.
I'm sure it's been said already but Alex has some awesome music videos too. Really adds to the experience for me.
Think I enjoyed about half of this on my first listen. Definitely connected more with the more straightforward tracks and can see myself coming back to those. Miracles into Forgive is a great endcap to the record for sure.
Finally got around to this and feel like it might be his best. He perfectly balanced the experimental part of his songwriting with his more traditional folk-rock stuff
It's this or House of Sugar for sure. I think this is more consistent, but the highs on HOS are really fucking hard to beat. "Runner," "Immunity," and "Miracles" all give them a run for their money though
I'd add Cross the Sea and Blessing to that list too hehe. For my tastes this just hits all the right notes. I tried ranking the songs and can't. Definitely my AOTY.
Had a really tough day and listening to "Runner" and "Forgive" when I got home was so fucking cathartic
For consistency alone I think this is his best album and yet it has so much more than just that going for it. not sure what my top songs would be but ain’t it easy and blessing are up there. Least favorite is early morning waiting because Stacy’s mom
sdos might be my fav track from this. i admittedly didn't pay too much attention to house of sugar. going to fix that.
Only thing this album is missing is an Emily Yacina collab, but I wonder if that last Pitchfork review made her more determined to focus on her own music. Regardless, more people should listen to Emily Yacina
Second half of the album is really starting to open up for me. Cross the Sea and Immunity might be his two best songs no hyperbole
Have been meaning to dive in on Alex's stuff for a while, starting here for the most part. Runner->Mission is as high as it gets on my 2022 list, just wonderful
