I love Rocket, but out of the new records (Beach Music forward), I think it's the one I revisit least in full
Alright, I’ll get into him I guess. But someone has to tell me why “SugarHouse - Live” is the only track that sounds like that on that LP. Follow up question, where can I get more that sound like it ?!
I'm assuming you mean the jazzy element and not the fact that it's live? There's some more stuff like that on Rocket
Alex G’s live stuff is what got me into his music. I saw him open for Dr. Dog a few years back and then I scored his Live at Third Man LP and Beach Music deluxe live bonus LP and it helped unlock his recorded music. With that said, I think he’s done a great job with House of Sugar and this latest LP in making the records energetic and complete sounding on their own (even if the live versions are still a bit different).
Yeah that’s been news for a bit, but I don’t think it was super widespread news. Regardless, super happy for him. Daddy Alex arriving 2023.
So...Alex G is a total blindspot for me yet I may want to see the tour this summer w/Alvvays. Any good starting points that people recommend?
His last two records are the most fully realized and cohesive, IMO. I would just start with those and then work backwards and appreciate the different facets and phases he explored previously.
Hell yeah...will be my 2nd time seeing him as an opener in Prospect Park. The last time was Fleet Foxes in 2017!
PACKS - Crispy Crunchy Nothing (March 31, 2023) • forum.chorus.fm This PACKS album is awesome and definitely brings the G vibes
