i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

thank you for mentioning this since this site is horrid at having a solid "album in stores" listing each and every week.

Was expecting that Tom Chaplin album to come out today, but saw that the UK release is today, and it doesn't come out here until January. Odd.

Yep, I saw that too. Incredibly stupid. I just downloaded it.

Yeah, that was the one I was really looking forward to listening to today, and then saw that. May have to do the same thing... I don't understand why they would do that. Kind of like the Carly Rae release where it came out a few months before the US release.

I see zero redeeming qualities to a release strategy like that. Maybe there's something I don't know, but it seems like the perfect way to kill your album.

  6. Is anyone going to support me if I say that I'm halfway through From Indian Lakes' latest and loathing it?

I try not to trust my initial judgments but...yeesh.

  7. Good point. This album has everything I hated about Ixora :crylaugh:

I'm really curious if my disliking of Everything Feels... will change over time

From Indian Lakes new album is really good, just ordered the vinyl.

Looking forward to checking out Two Door Cinema Club, I hope it's better than their last though, that one was very disappointing to me compared to their first which I loved.

New Kevin Devine album is amazing (not surprising)

Also will check out Conor Oberst soon

Ixora is fantastic, and new FIL is too. This is every bit as drone-y and chill as I hoped it would be. Plus, as far as singles go, The Monster is only 2nd best to Awful Things.

I'm with you. His chill delivery is great... but i liked it a lot more when it wasn't used the entiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrre album.

  12. Getting through tracks 3-10 was punishing for me. The whole style came across as wildly self-indulgent, especially when I've seen FIL perform big and loud live and do it so well.

Any uk Apple Music users not being able to listen to the FIL album today? Apparently the US Apple Music has it but not the UK one. Does this happen a lot?

Deaf Havana also released a new single today - Trigger. Pretty good. The new album is shaping up to be something noteworthy. Other than that, I'm gonna be Naked and Famous all weekend.

Two Tongues, Trophy Eyes, & Crying rules my ears right now.

  16. Trophy Eyes, Jeff Rosenstock, From Indian Lakes, The Naked and Famous, Conor Oberst, and The Dillinger Escape Plan all put out solid records. In Her Own Words new record is really fun too. I liked some of the Two Door Cinema Club record. I'm excited to check out Crying's record and not excited to check out Two Tongues record but I will sit through the terrible mixing.

Most of all though, my friends band, House of Blue Leaves just put out their debut record and it is SO GOOD. Everyone needs to listen. If you like Balance and Composure, Title Fight, Brand New, etc. you'll probably love this record. Really unique sound, and really good live.

Listen to the whole song, it's great.

  17. I sort of agree with you (the self-indulgent thing is how I feel about a lot of records that people on here love) but I do not get that feeling with Ixora! Sorry you feel that way, I feel like Ixora is actually a very dynamic record.

  18. It might be more musically dynamic than I give it credit for, but it's mostly Aaron's performances that bother me. He's whisper singing that whole record, as if he's not even trying. In terms of his performances, his melodies, and his lyrics, I think Aaron gave into all of his worst habits on Ixora. It's been a year and a half, probably, since I last listened, so I'm overdue to giving the album another chance, but as I remember it, "Chiromancer" was the only song where Aaron really sang.

  20. I was going to give you some long-winded explanation about why his method of singing is perhaps my favourite thing about this record, but I realized that every rationale I had could be boiled down to the idea that Ixora is just incredibly personal record for me in ways I don't feel comfortable elaborating on the internet. I hope you have records like that, man. It's alright if Ixora isn't one of them.

Also, thanks for checking out House of Blue Leaves! They need to get their shit together as a band if they want to go anywhere, but the sound is there. I'm really proud of their efforts.

If you aren't checking out the new Jeff Rosenstock album you're failing at everything, do yourself a solid and listen to it at least once.
