Excited for the Dua Lipa album even though the ratings haven’t been great. Also checking out P.O.D. just to do it. New athletics song! Love this band and they’ve been away for way too long. Think beautiful post rock with vocals.
Honestly, you wouldn't know how little he plays live from how tight the show was. His voice was phenomenal. The set was packed with so many shiver-down-the-spine moments when he belted out those high notes. The accompanying string quartet and cellist really elevated the songs too. Absolutely worth seeing him live if you ever get the chance. It felt a bit like destiny to get to see him. I had tickets for his first ever UK show in February, which clashed with the funeral date for my mother. Given that his Mother EP was such a crutch for me after my own mother passed (in a similar way to Ryan's mother no less), I was sad to miss what felt like a once in a lifetime show and to hear some of those songs in person. In a welcome twist of fate, he announced a new set of UK dates out of the blue and I jumped right on it. He played exactly the same set as the night I missed and I got to hear so many songs that have been dear to me for so many years, along with the newer songs that I wish I would never have had to connect with in the way that I now do. I forgot how special of an artist he is. There really are not many musicians out there that do what he does.
New Oakman is fun (it's also their debut record after a few EPs), this is a band from France that's on the same label as The Dangerous Summer, A Will Away etc., and in which I had already really liked how the vocalist sounded so much like Hayley Williams with the inflections/accents, but also so much like herself - that doesn't stand out that much anymore - same with the pop punk vibe, seeing as here they've really rely heavily on synths and ambience, channeling bands like Chvrches, but also sharing production choices with M83 or even Enter Shikari. If you like melodies straight from Paramore's S/T or New Found Glory's Coming Home, soaked in synths, then here you go
That's incredible. I'm glad it was a perfect night for ya! He's definitely one of the most prolific, yet under-the-radar songwriters out there. Gorgeous voice, arrangements, the whole nine. That's wicked awesome.
