Two particular debut albums I am very excited about this week:

Suzzallo - The Quiet Year

Rocky Votolato's new project, formed as a grieving mechanism following the devastating loss of his son. I've just finished my first listen and I've been fighting back tears on a good handful of songs (looking firmly at you "Magical Thinking"). The expansive full band sound is a perfect fit for his emotional vocal performance. This is a very special release.

Knives - GLITTER

Debut album from the chaotic UK noise merchants. One of my highlights from 2000 Trees festival last year. The sextet blend a wide selection of genres with jazz and post-punk being a dominant presence. The vocalist has a very urgent delivery and a great call and respond style with the backup vocalists that reminds me a lot of Fear Before the March of Flames. It completes the sound of a band that is going to rip the world a new one when they catch on.

I'll also be checking out:

PUP - Who Will Look After the Dogs?
Sadly none of the singles grabbed me by the throat, so I'm a little cold in approaching this one. I'm hoping I'll enjoy them more in the context of the full album. I always find I enjoy PUP a lot more when I'm paying attention to the lyrics, so I'll give it a proper go and expect it will click as it always does for them.

Propagandhi - At Peace
First time properly checking out Propagandhi after being very intrigued from watching the "A Fat Wreck" documentary.

Knuckle Puck - Copacetic (Remixed / Remastered)
Another band I've never properly checked out. I enjoy the odd single here and there so I'm keen to dip in to this 10 year old album, which I recall people loving at the time of its release.

Good release day.

EDIT: the remix of Copacetic fixes everything that kinda bugged me about the mix. Always loved the album but now vocals, guitar work, and drums shine. They all have space to breathe and don’t sound so compressed. Love it.

 

I would highly recommend the debut Bleed album which dropped today, and might be my favourite debut of 2025 so far.

Kinda like Superheaven and Basement but with definite nu-metal influences. It's got a very 2000s vibe to it but in the best way. There's a Static Dress feature too.

 

Who/what is Stale Azzwater? I see the name mentioned here all the time and Spotify and Google searches bring up nothing.
