Oh for sure. At first glace you think its a little hard on the nose, a la weird guy with acoustic guitar doing hip hop covers ironically but not really ironically.
Fickle Friends is tremendous even though I've listened to half the songs a million times already. Black Foxxes is one I'm pretty excited about and sounded great from what I've listened to so far. Might check out Casey and new STP as well.
Actually the new one might be more melodic hardcore than post-hxc like the first album there's also emo elements to it too according to RYM.
The Decemberists - Wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be Fickle Friends - I had never heard before, & this was really good. If you like The 1975 but want something a little bit poppier & female fronted, check this out. Casey - I had never heard of them but saw some recommendations in here, & it was well worth the listen. I added their previous album right after it. Free Throw - I haven't listened yet but am very anxious to hear that Same Drugs cover Mount Eerie - Never heard of them (him?) but based on recommendations in here I'll check it out
Make sure you have a box of tissues near you with that Mount Eerie record. Rat Kid Cool is really good. Sounds a bit like the Front Bottoms and Bleachers. Weird Al has done some remixes of Portugal the Man too which are fun.
Stoked for Black Foxxes for sure but the most exciting for me is Grayhaven. The singles they released are dope and I’m seeing them tonight on Norma Jean’s Redeemer tour, so I’ll be spending plenty of time with that to get pumped.
Going to check out Casey based on the recs here, seems right up my alley. For those of you who haven't listened to Black Foxxes yet, get on that.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still mostly about his wife. But I’m not getting choked up listening to it like the last one. This one is more about the aftermath of it all, and delves into his past some. Very interesting. Also he brought back melodies in this album. Also anyone check out the new Hot Snakes? I thought it was pretty fantastic and breezy. Good old-fashioned post-hardcore like Drive Like Jehu was
I can't get into Mount Eerie musically, I may need to read the lyrics to the songs to appreciate it more. I tried! Will def check out Rat Kid Cool, thanks!
No love for Hot Snakes? Just bought tickets to see them in June. Really wanted to see them in the fall when they came by, but it was the same night as Hot Water Music.
The new Casey album is gonna be at the very top of my AOTY list. So incredibly powerful, I relate to it a ton. Definitely my favorite band lately. I recommend checking out their previous record and EP too, to anyone who hasn't.
