I'm not well versed in either of them, but it sounds exactly like I think a Lennon-Claypool album would sound. Sorry if that's not helpful ha.
Beartooth, Tegan and Sara, and Gates for me today. On first listen Love You To Death didn't quite pull me in like Heartthrob did. Beartooth was Beartooth. I'll have to listen to Gates a bit later. Heard it's a great nighttime album.
For anyone looking for great road trip music (americana style) William Tyler's Modern Country is the right choice.
Listened to Tegan and Sara, Gates, and Vic Mensa today. Maybe I'll round it off with something country.
Obviously cause she's making country now, don't you know that making music in a popular genre makes you a sellout?
Yes! Haven't listened to the album yet but the singles were good. I did listen to the song with Frank Turner last night though and I loved it!
Today I listened to the new Beartooth and the Orphan, the Poet. Both Ohio bands. I'll check out some of the other new releases this weekend.
Checking out a ton of stuff this week...these last two weeks have been busy. Beartooth-"Aggressive" Cassadee Pope-"Summer EP" Garbage-"Strange Little Birds" Hellyeah-"Unden!able" Maren Morris-"Hero" Tegan and Sara-"Love You to Death" The Lonely Island-"Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" The Strokes-"Future Present Past EP" Volbeat-"Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie" And some singles: A Day to Remember-"Bad Vibrations" Beck-"Wow" Billy Talent-"Louder Than the DJ" Moose Blood-"Knuckles" NEEDTOBREATHE-"Great Night" Young Guns-"Bulletproof"
It took me a couple of listens to get into it. I would definitely listen with headphones on and give yourself time to really absorb it. Although, I could see why they would not appeal to everyone.
I am really enjoying her record. Its weird, at times she is blatantly country like on Sugar and My Church but then there are times where she totally steers off in a singer/songwriter or pop direction.
I actually think "Sugar" is one of the songs that sounds the least country. Most of the record is very pop-driven. The ballads are where she tends to sound more country. Either way, I don't really think genre tags matter when the songs are this strong.
She's also opening for Keith Urban right now, on his summer tour, with these songs, so how can she miss? Haha
