Hey, if the endless mocking of "Photograph" and "Rockstar" back in the day resulted in them becoming less culturally ubiquitous, then it served a purpose in my life. As long as I don't have to hear their songs, I don't care how "big" they are.
Well, you said they peaked in 2005. A band like Adema peaked in 2005 and now they're playing 200 person bars. Nickelback may have peaked in your mind but they're still gigantic 12 years later. I haven't heard a new Nickelback song on the radio in years but they're still relevant when people mock them. When 1 person mocks them on their social media pages, chances are more people are reminded of them and some will go revisit their songs.
Big release day for me. Broadside – Paradise Chon - Homey Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up Hundredth – Rare Lorde – Melodrama Portugal. The Man – Woodstock
Don't forget the new Royal Blood. Although I don't expect it to be that great I will still check it out.
They never clicked for me so I was planning on skipping it since the day is so full as it is. I'll add it to my spotify though and give it a chance at some point.
Lorde Young Thug Chon Royal Blood Jason Isbell Broadside Fleet Foxes Portugal. The Man All need listens from me. Wow, what a day! Edit: also 2 chainz Com Truise Edit 2: oh, and Kevin Morby
This month is unbelievable. Listened to Lorde and the first half of Fleet Foxes this morning. Still need to listen to Portugal. the Man, Jason Isbell, Royal Blood, the Drums, and Young Thug. Plus I'm still not caught up from last week with the Sufjan Stevens (and others) Planetarium album, Rise Against, Cigarettes After Sex, and alt-J. And I'm still nowhere near done with All Time Low, Bleachers, or Paramore's recent releases.
Big week! Lots of great stuff. H.E.R. - H.E.R., Vol. 2 Portugal. The Man - Woodstock Broadside - Paradise Fleet Foxes - Crack-Up And 2 that are really solid that haven't been mentioned. Definitely worth a listen! Palm - Shadow Expert Yoke Lore - Goodpain
The song "Laps around a picture frame" from the new Broadside album is one of the catchiest songs I've heard in a while, if anyone is keeping score.
Gonna have to side with you on this one. Are they still big, playing arenas and amphitheaters? I mean, yeah, of course they are. But you can't say they didn't peak 10 years ago, when they were all over the radio. Now, in 2017, they're much less on the radio than they were back in 2005-2007. Yeah, they're still one of the bigger rock bands, but they have declined in popularity since then. However, I would say there are worse bands out there than Nickelback.
Lorde is the highlight of the day for me, and one of the highlights of the year, but I intend to check out Jason Isbell and Fleet Foxes if I can ever tear myself away from it.
All the Right Reasons was one of the most ubiquitous rock albums of the millennium. The fact that I haven't heard anything from their last three or four is honestly incredible after that.
