as a whole, he's not. But his two new songs are better than those bands new songs that were released this year in my opinion.
For me, the latest releases from these artists go: Yellowcard > mgk > TSL > GC > all-american rejects vampire diaries is fire though. Fun video too.
Impureza -- Flamenco tech-death. So cool. Hell -- Claustrophobia inducing sludge Born of Osiris -- Proggy metalcore. I think this is one of their better albums! A bit more melody than past releases. Ranges -- Instrumental post-metal. Came out Wednesday or Thursday. Better than average for the space. Novolascura -- This is really good screamo. Split Chain -- New nu-metal with some shoegaze & grunge. Innerlove. -- Quick & catchy emo. Goon -- Indie shoegaze. It is very pleasant. Twice -- I still like kpop. Wet Leg -- It's okay. You will probably like it more than I do.
Those mgk (is that really what he’s going by now? Was that after all those old tweets got brought up, did he change his name?) songs are so so so bad.
I listened to the song posted in here and it’s genuinely one of the most bland things I’ve ever heard. Just zero character whatsoever
It sounds like he has marbles in his mouth over the most generic music and hilariously bad vampire lyrics this side of Aiden?
Had no idea what you guys were talking about with mgk, then I scroll on Reddit and see it's the same dude that's constantly on r/crappymusic
Was so baffled I had to actually check out those mgk singles, I couldn't imagine how could that get even remotely close to how well TSL has matured - can't say I appreciate the whole experience hahh
So this comment is fine. You're entitled to your opinion. This comment on the other hand is juvenile, condescending, and unnecessary. You're in your mid-40's now and still toxic as hell. You're literally just trying to make someone feel shitty for enjoying something. I started with absolutepunk.net in high school back around 2001-2002. I did the tech roundups for years, and I've been an annual supporter of chorus.fm since you put the program in place. I was truly a ride or die. Hell, I have a Christmas card from you somewhere in a box in my attic. All that being said, I'm 40 now, in a great place in life and happier than ever, and I want no part of this negativity. This isn't about mgk (I didn't say the shit was Shakespeare; I just find it fun). It's about disassociating myself with things that bring me down. We're at the age now where you truly understand how short life is. Time is precious. Anyway, I've enjoyed the past 20+ years on your sites and will look back on them with good memories. I wish you the best, and I hope you find your happiness. Take care, Jason.
I appreciate your long-time support over the years and genuinely wish you all the best as well. Just to clarify: my original reply wasn’t directed at you — it was in response to someone who quoted me with just a sarcastic “lmao,” which, especially coming from someone with a history of antagonizing, felt worth addressing. That said, while I respect anyone’s decision to walk away from what no longer brings them joy, your message — calling me “toxic as hell” and “juvenile” — doesn’t exactly read like someone taking the high road. If your aim was to disengage from negativity, you could’ve just done that without the personal insults and moralizing. Framing it as a goodbye while taking parting shots comes across as performative more than principled. Regardless, I don’t take the good years or your past contributions for granted. If moving on brings you peace, then I support that. Take care.
I, for one, made my mgk comment above in a very light-hearted spirit, if you'd like to know - not 40 yet, but I'm definitely already fine with whatever anybody enjoys - if you see me making a "fuss" in any thread over people not appreciating that new TSL single as much as I do, it's only facetious ;))
Didnt realize having an opinion that others may disagree with qualified as having a “history of antagonizing”. Kinda funny that on the internet in the year 2025 this was even said.
