First great day for heavy releases so far this year: Agrimonia Centuries Die Young Hooded Menace (solid death/doom hybrid) Howling Sycamore Machine Head (l-o-l this is bad) Mammoth Grinder (early contender for my album of the year) Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons Portal Primal Rite Sleeping Giant Tribulation Other stuff I may check out if I care: No Age Tiny Moving Parts
based off what i know about your tastes, i'm not sure you'd like it. but don't let that stop you from checking it out. they're an awesome mid-tempo death metal band with grimy hardcore and d-beat influences. the drummer for power trip is their vocalist/guitarist, and the rest of the band is rounded out by members of iron reagan.
yeah, death metal isn't necessarily my thing but grimy hardcore definitely hits more. as i said, i saw a metal contributor from NPR who is generally awesome really hyped about it which might be enough to at least give it a peek
Tiny Moving Parts!! Such a good album. Will listen to The Dangerous Summer some more and also check out new Waterparks.
Only Above & Beyond and The Dangerous Summer's new albums for me today, but stoked to give them a spin later. Might check some of the other albums people have been recommending in this thread.
If anyone needs some pop punk / pop rock tunes in their lives, I just put my old bands stuff on Spotify. We recorded an EP with Zack Odom & Kenneth Mount (Mayday Parade, Cartel, Hit the Lights) in 2009. We’re called The American Life. Our EP with Z/K is called “I Know, Right...” It’s fun. A mix of Reggie and the Full Effect, and Mayday Parade. I’m digging The Dangerous Summer’s new record.
Is this new Tiny Moving Parts a big step up for them? Don't remember enjoying their older stuff nearly this much.
TMP is really great and probably the first record from them I can actually feel a strong connection with. It has a nice tinge of poppiness and brightness that I haven't felt from their music before this. I'll also check these out: Marmozets The Dangerous Summer Long Neck
This is a question I had too, because man I am digging this new one. Never got hooked on older stuff, maybe I will now.
The new album is most similar to their last album 'Celebrate'. The albums before that are fairly different than the newer stuff.
The Dangerous Summer - What a comeback. Very happy with this. Tiny Moving Parts - Just bangers, and that's exactly what I wanted Marmozets - There are a couple skippable tracks, and it's not as good as their first, but what's good is really fun Waterparks - Loved their first record, don't like this at all Long Neck - Thought I was going to like it more than I did. maybe it'll grow on me? Dead! - Haven't listened yet, hoping it's good The new CrazyEightyEight single is so good, it throws me back to old Underoath but with a female singer. Highly recommend if you miss that sound Also, two records that flew under my radar in the past few weeks are the records from awakebutstillinbed and Shame. I highly recommend both. awakebutstillinbed's record sounds like a whole album of "Life in Drag" type Hotelier songs, and Shame is this gritty, extremely weird punk record with pop hooks scattered around.
I forgot Sleeping Giant existed. Though the new album is a farewell album, so I guess they kinda don't. Cool that Ryan Clark is on a song. Also, of course the opening track is called "Preachcore Lives!" lol. I'll probably really dig this album.
New EP from Slow Bloom today (some guys from State Faults); the song Sarcophaguts is really really good.
Glad that I didn’t jump the gun and pre-order Entertainment, it didn’t quite live up to the hype - but I’m also surprised to see some reviews leaning on the negative side. It does sound like a natural evolution and refining of Waterparks’ sound, and “Blonde” and “Not Warriors” are the best songs they’ve ever written. Excited to eventually see them live, and looking forward to whatever they put out next!
