So you're saying the band is lying. If that's the case - I agree they should all rot in hell and fuck off. ♂️
I really haven't wanted to wade into this, but I do personally think the revelation that Graham is on the autism spectrum does add more nuance to this situation. I do NOT think it absolves him of what he did to be clear... but I don't think the possibility that he didn't fully realize what the perception of his actions would be is totally unreasonable. Idk, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way when that statement basically immediately got written off as bullshit by a lot of people. The tricky thing with ASD is each person's case can be drastically different from another's, so not knowing Graham I don't know how high-functioning he is when it comes to social cues and things like that. But unfortunately misunderstandings and intentions taken the wrong way are a huge factor in the life of so many people with ASD... even those who ARE more high-functioning, which I'd assume he is to be in the position of being a drummer in a successful band. So personally, I do think it's possible (not certain) that there's a degree of truth to that statement.
And I think you're not getting it. From the girls standpoint - regardless of his condition she is a victim and it sucks she had to deal with feeling creeped on and it sucks that she had to deal with it publicly thereafter. It's terrible that this happened and it's awesome that she was tough and awesome enough to call him out on his shit and let adults know. From his standpoint - If he's really that bad with understanding social norms you or I take for granted and picking up cues he really may not have identified the age of the girl or that it was even a problem. That's the fucked up thing with mental handicaps. Obvious shit isn't so obvious all the time. In his eyes he may have thought she were pretty, he may have invited her to a barbecue along with a crap ton of other people he invited and that may be the entirety of the story. For all we know it may not even be sexual. It depends on really what he's dealing with. There are many people on the spectrum and you'd never even know it because they are a-symptomatic or only show very little. Now if it's being used as a convenient excuse he may have also known exactly what he was doing and he may very well be a predator. I guess the public has to decide for themselves which story is the real story.
I'm not reading through all of that, but a point that I think is being missed is that even if *benefit of the doubt* the creepy guy wasn't intending to be creepy, his behaviour was still dangerous and inappropriate, and it's unwise to let him continue with his platform. If you genuinely care about the young, female fans of the band you can't have a "maybe he didn't mean it like that" attitude. Also, what the fuck are the "norms of child predatory behaviour"? And no I don't actually want an answer to that question. Poppy album is fascinating, excited to dig into it more.
Pressure Cracks - This is Called Survival - EP Jason Butler of letlive. and Fever 333's newest project.
To add to the Graham/Echosmith thing: I know of another musician (female/over 18) who refered to him as “Echosmith Creeper” years before this Alabama Barker stuff popped up. Just sayin.
Adding Theo Katzman's new record 'Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe" because it rules Also, new Poppy rules
Was not expecting this sound from Poppy and was definitely not expecting to actually like it as much as I do.
