Why did I get Meet Me @ the Altar was a shitty screamo band that had been around for 20 years... who was I thinking they were lol
that could be it! It was definitely something with the wording of the band title that made me think of something pretty forgettable for way back in the day.
He was brought up on early 2000's emo/screamo like Underoath and other scene bands in the same time period. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he was also a Hellogoodbye fan!
Gave it a listen after the HG mention. Glad I did - this is really good so far. The HG vibes are less than expected, but I can tell what you're saying at some parts.
The vocals (at least at times) and a lot of the melodies give me that vibe. A little bit in the instrumentation too.
The Killers, obviously, but everyone should listen to the new Kalie Shorr EP, which she made with Butch Walker and which sounds like the records he made in the early 2000s. Feel like anyone who liked the pop-punk-leaning stuff on the Olivia Rodrigo album would dig it.
These crunchy riffs and production elements on Meet Me @ The Altar remind me so much of Hit the Lights mixed with early Paramore. Great sounding EP!
Hahah, I blame the use of the “@“ sign. I contend “Crosses” as being the worst offender of band name naming conventions. I believe they’re symbols, but on mobile they’re emojis. Lol
CHVRCHES just released a beautiful cover of "The Killing Moon" (Echo and the Bunnymen) via Amazon Music here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BW5VKVQ/?tag=absolutepunk-20
Not stealing meet me @ the altar's pop punk thunder today, cause that EP is pure awesomeness, but I also came across an EP from a band called Unwell, which is pretty good. They have a nifty pop punk cover of Fast Car on there.
It's baffling how they're able to cram so many catchy riffs, melodies and epic breakdowns into this little EP.
