I don't know if I would call it "bad" but it's definitely lacking compared to their radio singles for sure. Still a couple of pretty good songs but I'm sure the hype it has doesn't match its quality.
Yeah it did feel really lacking. I'll admit, I like their radio hits and 'The One' from the new album has grown on me but I didn't find much else on the album to be very memorable.
Been meaning to give Smith Street Band a listen for a while after seeing the guy do a few songs with Camp Cope's Georgia Maq. Liking what I'm hearing.
I'm really liking the new Diet Cig. Definitely check out Super American's EP, especially if you liked I Can See Mountains.
Margot and the Nuclear So and So's lead man dropped an album today! It's under Richard Edwards and titled Lemon Cotton Candy Sunset. Really enjoying it so far and sounds like (or even better than) Margot, which I also love.
Enjoying The Maine WAY more than expected. Getting serious The 1975 vibes. Diet Cig was really good too but I need to give it more time. April is starting off strong.
Dang, I was listening to it all day yesterday and all of today so far. I feel like it's catchy as fuck. As a long time fan of her I wasn't fond of the first few singles but they grew on me for sure. I felt like they didn't sound like her at all but the more I listen to the album I can't help but feel it's exactly the same but more mature. There's only one or two songs that I'm unsure of after ten or so listens. The album as a whole though is killer. Definitely better than all of the songs she had scrapped for the last two albums. Still hoping they get a CD release at some point if this new album sells well. My album favorites are: Fault Line, Heartbreak Now, Knock Yourself Out (This one sounds like it would fit perfectly on Hotel Paper, super old school Michelle), Not Your Love Song (Cool chorus, kinda sounds a little "No Doubt-y"), Last Night, Bad Side (probably my favorite), Overall it's definitely a good album and was worth waiting a decade+ since her last solo album. Maybe come back to it later down the line, give it another chance, sometimes that helps.
Wow! You're a way bigger fan than I am. And I'm glad you're able to enjoy the new album! I'm certainly not trying to suggest that it's "bad," especially based off of how little of the album I listened to. Sometimes, though, there's so much music in the world and so little time for listening, that I have to go with my first impression and move on if an album doesn't grab me.
Nah I didn't take it the wrong way, I think I read it the way you meant it. It's all good. Everyone is allowed an opinion Yeah I hear you, I've just been waiting so long for her to release something new that I MADE time to listen lol.
Diet Cig... that's all I know/care about from the list of new releases. I'll have to check out some of the ones I haven't heard of.
Diet Cig Future Island Father John Misty Cold War Kids The New Pornographers (which seems to be overlooked) New Singles Jack white Feist Chastity belt Dreamcar Beach fossils
Diet Cig The Flatliners K. Flay The Maine Michelle Branch The New Pornographers Russian Circles Wear Your Wounds
Damn, that's a shame to hear. I didn't love the first single or song that was released so this was my fear. At least we have the past material!
Diet Cig and The Flatliners are really good albums. Going through Joey Bada$$ right now. Enjoying it so far. Still need to go through Michelle Branch and The Maine. Debating about the Chainsmokers album, but I don't mess with a ton of EDM.
This Father John Misty record is exhausting, and pretentious but there's also so much beauty here. Really swept up in "Leaving LA" right now. On the total opposite end of the spectrum, Diet Cig is a blast and a half.
You're the one who got me into Diet Cig a while back via an Instagram post you made, so thank you I'm also in the same boat as you regarding releases. I did check out Father John Misty because it was pretty well hyped around these parts but overall kinda boring so far.
