I've been waiting for NFG to reinvent themselves for almost a decade at this point. The past few albums have just been the same generic stuff just rehashed over and over again. I was fully expecting that with this new release, and while I'd say about half of that fits that description, side B has some really solid tunes that are just flirting with a new, full 90s vibe and I was bummed they didn't just straight hop over into that new sound.
Oh snap, all Ryan Adams' Prisoner B-Sides are up on Spotify today too. This turned out to be a great release day!
This NFG album is exceeding my expectations. Way better than anything since Not Without a Fight. I'm digging the beach vibes in a few of these songs.
The new Flatfoot 56 "Odd Boat" is surprisingly fantastic. In the vein of more classic Flogging Molly and DKM. Melodic, fast, and just damn good. Never liked a full effort from them before.
Listening to New Found Glory's new album and I'm really impressed. Willie Nelson's new one is worth a listen too.
The Dirty Nil and NFG on repeat all damn day. Also want to check out The Scandals' EP - read that it has some early Gaslight vibes (Brian produced it too).
The new NFG is sooooo much fun! Been waiting awhile for a fully cohesive album, such as this one. "Call Me Anti-social" has some serious Coming Home-album vibes and is basically "Hold My Hand" Pt 2. Love the whole damn thing, and I've been with them since the beginning. The new Gorillaz "Humanz" is also an enjoyable listen, with the sum of its parts being better than any one stand-out track or single. What else should I be checking out today?
One of my favorite music days in a long time Gorillaz- Humanz Foster the People- III and then the new Phoenix, Haim, Blink-182, Fall Out Boy and Portugal the Man songs
Worth noting that the NFG record is great, but what really stands out to me are the Bridge Sections. They have the usual poppy sing along choruses, but the Bridge of just about every song is what caught my attention.
Oh! Also also also Gp. released an album today! The first release from the band formerly known as Ghost Parade. Super killer, groovy indie rock.
Thank you for bringing this up. I checked it out and I am definitely digging it so far. Reminds me of Secret & Whisper as well.
