I thought this was really good, I know absolutely subzero about sports but this really hooked me was particularly surprised by Bateman who looked both more engaged and about 10 years younger than the last few times I've seen him, really good stuff. I don't quite get what the deal was with his character and the guy with the glasses though?
forget the exact line, but when sonny responded with "how did you know there was a second type of __________" (or words to that effect) me and a big chunk of my theater roared with laughter
I love that the main fact about Phil Knight is he donated billions of dollars. Oh, that must mean he must be good then.
this definitely sidled up to the edge of "big corporation is actually the underdog and cuddly and good" with Nike a couple times. I think it emphasised the individual contributions of all the guys and villainised the board of directors enough that it didn't go too far with it, but it was definitely a danger here
In terms of Matt Damon brand movies that are actually commentaries on capitalism, “Ford Vs. Ferrari” is superior.
Sometimes it's okay to not overanalyze the politics of a movie that clearly isn't particularly concerned with them.
Saw this with my friend who’s a big sneaker head and works with them, like cleaning or restoring or whatever. (Clearly not my personal wheelhouse, lol.) We both had a great time; what a fun trip to the movies! Could’ve used more 80s signifiers, though.
FvF and Air are also movies actually about making movies. FvF is about making art under a corporate system (like making a mid-budget drama during the Fox/Disney acquisition) Air is about making sure artists get paid (ya know like Affleck & Damon's production company Artists Equity)
