Really solid start, like others have said it has a classic Star Wars feel to it. Sabine has is the bright spot right now along wit Huyang. There’s good chemistry among the cast as a whole. Animatronic loath cat was awesome too. The Sabine v Darth Bangs fight was pretty solid. I have some nitpicks. Number one, was that map really that hard to unlock? They spent a lot of time on it and the solution ended up being basically a really easy version of a rubix cube. The editing, particularly in the first episode, could have been a little tighter. I generally don’t mind the slower pace, but there were more than a few moments where it felt like they could have cut a few prolonged pauses in dialogue or a couple of overlong ponderous looks.
I really think this the fatal flaw of the Volume. You can create great sets, but the lack of physical space on set seems to constrain movement and make the action scenes less dynamic. Compare this, Mando and Obi-Wan to Andor where they used real sets and shot on location and you can see the difference.
So we can officially put to bed the theory that Marrock is Ezra. The databank entry on StarWars.com reads as follows' MARROK (INQUISITOR) Once an Inquisitor hunting Jedi for the Empire, the mysterious Marrok now works as a mercenary hired by Morgan Elsbeth to carry out dark deeds. Fully encased in battered battle armor, the warrior still carries a red double-bladed saber with a circular hilt.
I haven't watched a single second of Rebels so the way they introduced Sabine had me thinking she was an angsty teen but turns out shes supposed to be like 30? I dont buy it
You're telling me you never sped on the freeway listening to punk when you're a little miffed? I must be so immature.
Listening to Illuminati Hotties Illuminati Hotties Sings New Song in Star Wars: Ahsoka’s First Episode
Rosario Dawson really looks like Ahsoka. She does a great job at having Ahsoka facial expressions and postures as well
There’s just something off in the voice. A kindness is missing that I always thought Ahsoka had. It’s fine though and doesn’t really derail things for me much
Rosario Dawson’s voice is a lot lower than the clone wars’ voice actress. I feel like some of her playfulness is gone but that could be because she’s older and seen a lot more shit or that the playfulness seems cheesier in live action.
I always thought Ahsoka being a bit more hardened on the Disney+ shows compared to clone wars makes sense. She’s been through order 66 and found out Anakin was Vader. Makes sense for her to have a little personality change.
Finally watched the first two episodes today after finishing my Rebels rewatch yesterday (seriously an incredible show that you are missing out on if you have not seen it) and I just can't believe this exists, I'm so happy that they're directly following up the storyline in a live action show like this. I'm actually happy to hear that people that haven't seen Rebels are still enjoying it because I was actually thinking while I was watching that they really kind of just continued with the Rebels characters and didn't bother really explaining who Sabine, Hera and especially Ezra and Thrawn were that much. That's perfectly fine with me because I'm so familiar with the characters but glad to hear newcomers don't feel lost The casting is great. Winstead as Hera is basically perfect, the actress playing Sabine does a really good job of portraying the same character but disillusioned and matured, and they could not have done a better job bringing Chopper into live action. I really, really hope we get to see Zeb, and at least a mention or two of Kanan. Would be nice to get an update on Kallus too, and awesome to see them bring in Clancy Brown as Ryder after basically modeling the character after him anyway! Dawson's live action interpretation of Ahsoka honestly still needs to fully win me over. I get that animation doesn't translate into live action super well a lot of the time but sometimes she still doesn't feel like the same character that I grew to love from Clone Wars and Rebels. I know she's a lot older, wiser and has been through a lot more shit (she was already a lot less outgoing/bubbly in Rebels than she was in CW) but I guess the transition into being dead serious and kind of stiff is still kinda jarring to me. It makes sense for the character at this stage in her life though, this isn't a real complaint. However, Ahsoka taking Sabine as her apprentice is kind of weird to me. Never in Rebels did they hint that Sabine is even slightly force-sensitive, or that she had any desire to be a Jedi. Definitely gonna need some time/more development to really make that choice click for me I'm mostly just really excited to finally see the explanation of where Ezra and Thrawn have been all this time, and how they were affected. Both of those are characters I absolutely cannot wait to see brought into live action I'm so happy that this exists
