Yeah, I was a little disappointed in the Devouring Mothers album too. It's just okay. I was hoping this was an AM! album, but I guess it makes no sense to put out an album (financially) when you can't tour. I'm sure they're waiting for that reason, which I understand.
I mean, right off the bat... I can't imagine being an AM/Laura fan and not liking China Beach or Born in Black, and I'm only two tracks in... oh well
Manic Depression might be my favorite. I Hate Chicago, Born In Black and Apocalypse Now are all a lot of fun too. Valeria Golino gets stuck in my head all the time. t's a pretty great album.
I have read a few articles, she seems to imply that these songs were intended for the next AM! album, but that is not abundantly clear.
Two of them were performed with Against Me! at the show I saw in March right before lockdown started.
Had heard of AG! at the time, but never heard. Saw them play Warped Tour in 07 or whatever it was and thought they were good. Bought New Wave(Fargo Release) CD with those 5 bonus tracks and listened on the way home - really dug it, became a fan. Didn't really dive into older stuff though. On one summer afternoon in 2011 after it had rained and the sun had came out, I went to Best Buy and picked up a copy of White Crosses and fell in love with that album. (Looking at Wikipedia I have never heard the 4 WC bonus tracks.....)
My favorite show I’ve ever been to was the fat wreck chords 2005 tour where AM! Headlined. They had to reschedule because they booked Conan. When they came out to perform they apologized for having to reschedule and they brought cupcakes for everyone and it just turned into everyone throwing cupcakes at each other while they played. At the end of the set I told Warren I loved him and he gave me a set list. I was a junior in high school and just had the time of my life.
