Obviously not Achtung Baby but I immediately thought of Bullet the Blue Sky for some reason, maybe the bass
Really really like Behind the Clocks. Probably more than any single I've been around for the release of (got into them with Blood). If the rest of the album is this good, could see this being my favorite AFI record.
ok yeah I am super into this new single, if this vibe carries over the entire album then its going to end up close to if not my aoty and similar sentiments to above maybe my fave AFI album
It really is a phenomenal song, wouldn’t put it above Sing the Sorrow or anything lol but after not being THAT interested in new stuff from AFI for a while, this single-handedly made the album one of my most anticipated of the year. Was a huge unexpected surprise for me in the best way possible.
I enjoy this song and it has me optimistic and curious for the full album, don’t think it touches anything on Burials or prior though
Yeah, personally this sounds like a song that will work better for me in the context of the full album. I'm definitely intrigued with them going fully into this direction they've always flirted with though
The single is awesome. Sometimes when bands try to channel an era it can be pretty cheesy, this is excellent. the low notes are WILD. I listened to the AP interview, I love the idea of a whole record being a specific mood, particularly with a tight 10 song release.
Kind of wild he’s had that ace in the sleeve this whole time. I’m really interested in their approach to a 12th album. Pretty radical in a time where bands from this scene are grasping at the 20 year tours and nostalgia obsession. also some magazine needs to do a write up on his style with every album release. Love that his mustache is half the chatter online rn.
I'm ashamed to say I wrote the band off after Crash Love. I'm not sure I ever even listened to Burials...but listening through now and this is some good shit.
AFI has been my favorite band for 25 years. I remember how shocking it was to hear Girls Not Grey for the first time, and how each album that followed continued to surprise me. I became a fan because of Art of Drowning and Black Sails, but I’m glad they've kept changing things up all this time instead of continuing to play the same things. I know not everyone agrees, but I think their longevity can be at least somewhat attributed to that desire not to repeat themselves and to keep making the art they want to make, rather than that which some people want them to make. That said, I'm absolutely ecstatic that I can sit here 2 1/2 decades later and still be moved by their music in the same way a much younger version of me once was.
That's obviously not what I'm talking about. You've never heard a veteran act lower the key of a song so they won't go flat?
Weird to me seeing folks benchmarking Burials like The Blood Album never happened. I fucking love that record.
