I like Blood and Bodies (lol what a statement) a decent amount as well - just lower tier AFI which is expected with the sort of discography they have
I love how everyone has totally opposite opinions on their discography but reunite with the simple definition that they rock. Great band. Glad they’re going strong and will continue to go strong.
Absolutely love this. Songs sounded amazing last night live. Picked up the RFC First variant today at my record store.
Nooneunderground rules. This thing isn't bad, but I can only see myself revisiting maybe three songs off it.
Strongest first listen I had since Burials as well (whereas it was the total opposite with Bodies). They nailed the direction they were going for.
I appreciate the total commitment to the sound and energy they wanted on this album. So often you'll get one or two which sound like it while a band doesn't really adapt and AFI just fucking went for it.
wow this fucking murders def the best since burials and potentially best since sing the sorrow need to let it sit more but as someone whos dragged my feet through both blood album and bodies, this is the exact kind of shakeup this band needed to fall back in my good graces, and they nail it nearly all of the time. my only gripe is some of daveys hooks are kind of static but they feel more like a rhythmic complement to everything than conventional melodies so it feels intentional in a way i can respect. his performance is sick tho, he really embodies this sound well, and instrumentally my god, they nailed it. killer stuff
He said in the Hardlore interview that there was a lot of monotone delivery, to suit the music / vibe. His lower registry stuff, like in Blaqk Audio, has always had a bit too much pomp and goofiness for me to really get into it. But it's incredible here - those growls he does in Behind The Clock are vicious.
I was perfectly content skipping this tour bc I actively disliked the first single, but then I listened to the podcast and now the whole album and…I fucked up. Might have to get a balcony seat for Oakland.
I was absolutely planning to skip this tour as well, prior to hearing the actual new music. The show closest to me is on Halloween. My first thought was "what a perfect night to see AFI", which is funny given Davey's comments in the Hardlore video. But I've got Halloween plans with the family, so unfortunately no show for me.
I keep checking to see if tickets hit where I’d be comfortable - basically below $50 - and it’s not happening so I’ll wait for the next tour.
Just finished my first listen and yeah this entire thing rules. No notes. Some Halloween ass music feels very appropriate
This album is fucking awesome. Pure 80s goth worship inthe best way. My favorite of theirs in legit 20 years.
Chicago show was amazing, embarrassed to say that despite being a longtime fan I don’t know most of the words to File 13 lol AFI Setlist at The Salt Shed, Chicago
Looking like Miss Murder is gonna be off the setlist for a while, and I’m sure the band and the hardcore fans are stoked lol
This album is so good. I love that this band can express themselves this way. Great follow-up to Bodies.
Listened to this last night and had a good time with it. Davey’s voice took a few minutes to get used to and can’t recall ever hearing him like this before but maybe my memory is just shot. Not that I dislike it, just was unexpected and it sounded very familiar to me and I finally figured it out - on this he reminds me a lot of the lead singer of Creeper (which I really like so that’s not a knock)
Yeah I think I like that a lot better for this album. I'll probably switch to that for my digital stuff.
