I didn't even notice that one was missing, TBH. LOL But the lack of Sacrifice Theory, Total Immortal, and GCIST is a bummer for me.
I expect Totalimmortal will get rotated in at some point, but the other two probably not. They haved played GCIST in 3 years. I was fine with the exclusion of Miss Murder because I've seen it so many times. Last night was possibly the first time since 2006 where they didn’t play it, and that's crazy.
I saw them in 2006 and they didn't play Days of the Phoenix, which at the time was probably my favorite song ever. I met Adam that night and asked him why they didn't play it and he said "we didn't feel like it." I didn't know what to say from there.
there should be a feature on setlist where you can mark the first time a song wasn't played after a streak
Solid reminder that I should grab a ticket for this tour. I haven't seen AFI since 2013? Setlist I saw was really solid, I'd imagine it gets changed up a bit during the tour though too.
Nothing is going to top the 930 Club show for me, but last night is a close second. The setlist had a little of everything, the energy from the crowd was great and people really responded well to the new songs, especially Holy Visions. My friend told me that she only knew five songs but had a blast just vibing & watching Davey haha.
I was at that show! It might have been my most casual AFI show because it was a get in, get out type of thing with travel & snow, but still an experience. Thinking about hearing This Celluloid Dream as the encore still gives me goosebumps.
Was tuned in to the RFC listening party for this record on Bandcamp this morning. Incredible stuff, probably their best work in a LONG time.
I almost lost it when they played This Celluloid Dream, what a great moment. Then closing with God Called in Sick Today?! And to think I almost didn't go, just bought a ticket last minute on a whim.
I was really hoping the crowd would be good so they might consider Madison again in the future, and I think it delivered. I'd been dreaming of them playing The Sylvee ever since it was first proposed, so finally seeing it happen was truly incredible.
I still need to cross AFI off my bucket list of bands to see live. They're not coming near South Dakota on this current tour, but hopefully they do Minneapolis or Omaha next year at some point. Also while Miss Murder is nowhere near my favorite AFI song, I would be bummed if they skipped it when I saw them, because I was late to the AFI party and it was the song that got me into their music when I was in junior high in 2006. I had maybe heard Girl's Not Grey previously, and while Girl's is definitely the better song, Murder made me wanna buy Decemberunderground and check everything out previously and ever since.
I haven't really had any interest in AFI since Sing the Sorrow and had no intentions of listening to any of this new record, but RFC have done such a great job of promoting it, I've been seeing AFI stuff in my socials every day for over a month and it's prompted me to go and revisit all their old records and get hyped on the band again, and now this album has jumped to the top of my queue for a day 1 listen. It just shows the value of giving your music to a label that's genuinely passionate about your band, I don't think anyone could have done better at promoting this than RFC has, and if it was on a major or major-adjacent it would have just been buried in the noise. IMO Black Sails in the Sunset, which I consistently revisit several times a year, is one of the best melodic hardcore records of all time. I've always been surprised it didn't spawn more imitators.
Is there a particular reason you've skipped 4 records? I mean, did you hear the singles of those and think "nah, not for me" or something?
