lol - i also can't think of a song where I love the verses so much and HATE the chorus. and couldn't help but notice your No Fun...HANL/Flenz fan? hell yeah
Great interview. Wish more time was spent talking about The Blood Album, Davey didn't really say much about that era except that he struggled during the writing process or something. Also wish the interviewers would've asked him about the Clandestine and Five Flowers ARGs for Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground, if Davey remembers anything from those. When I got into the band in 2008, I had so much fun reading what went down for both ie. the lore, clues and scavenger hunts leading to secret shows etc. With the old Despair Faction forum now long gone, I'm afraid that it's all lost media. edit: Could only find these https://mstar.tistory.com/entry/337Charlottes-Mystery-다른사람꺼 An Oral History of Despair Faction, AFI's Tight-Knit Fan Forum
I bet AFI is my top artist on Spotify this year. Been constantly revisiting their catalogue, especially with the hardlore interviews getting me hyped/nostalgic.
I'm doing a discog run right now and can confirm for the 100th time that STS is a masterpiece and I will almost definitely be getting a tattoo of the leaf logo on the cover I think I'm gonna wait for the album release to hear the new single
Holy Visions grew on me a ton, but this new song is probably my favorite of the three. Doubt they play it in Madison tomorrow but I'm trying to speedrun the lyrics just in case ha.
I've never seen them play less than 3 tracks off the album they're touring, so I'm hoping they debut it.
They didn't end up playing Ash Speck last night, but they did play the first two singles and debuted Marguerite and The Bird of Prey!
The new songs fuck live, especially the two I hadn't heard yet. They also fucking played Rabbits Are Roadkill and I lost my damn mind. The dopamine rush I get from seeing this band is on another level. My friend who has never seen them before also went with me and I forgot how fun it is to go to someone else's first AFI show.
I also got to experience being there for my friend's first time last night, and it was really special. Honestly, last night might be the best AFI show I've seen in person.
I'm so stoked for this tour, based on the Hardlore interview it seems like they are really stoked on this record and they're touring it right on the release cycle, unlike Bodies.
Gotta be so clear that the Bodies tour was also great, Davey climbed the opera boxes at the Riv and it was some of the coolest shit I've seen happen at the Riv
These songs are kind of cool, I think - especially Ash Speck. It’s been a very long time since I’ve heard anything from this band; I think the last album I listened to was Decemberunderground. I may have listened to Crash Love once but I don’t remember.
Haven't dug into the Hardlore interview yet because I'm saving it for a point where I can really sit down and digest it... But man, I'm so stoked for this record based off the singles! And I'm really happy I get to see these songs live next week. But I'm also a little bummed that it's at the expense of them cutting a few key classics from the setlist.
I really want to go to the show this Friday but I it's also increasingly difficult to justify $70 concert tickets.
That's my biggest gripe with Salt Shed, unless it's Jeff Rosenstock playing you're almost guaranteed to be dropping >$60.
Looking at the Madison setlist it is genuinely kinda cool that they straight up didn't play their biggest hit.
