AFI - AFI (The Blood Album) (January 20, 2017) Album • Page 9

  1. Good. Not great. Way better than CL, but not as good as 'Burials.' Oddly hurt by proctuction ina few places, and lack of cohesiveness. Too long.

I thought it picked up steam towards the second half but yeah something just felt...off. "Uninspired" might be incorrect but that seems like the best way I can put it for now. Almost like they're out of ideas or something. Sometimes they showed glimpses of being great throughout here though.

I actually think it's a pretty baller album. It has some EXCELLENT songs, some growers, and only two or three that I probably won't come back to.

She Speaks the Language, besides being the best song on here, should have been the closer because the actual closer was kind of a wtf moment for me. I was surprised to hear so much of their roots come out in songs like So Beneath You and Dumb Kids. I am confused and afraid of what is happening lyrically in Pink Eyes.

Overall I'm real happy with it.

Relistened at the gym and yeah, they are definitely best when they have some energy to them. I could listen to "Still a Stranger" over and over.

I'm actually sad that they cut back on the electronic elements and the crazy production. These songs are pretty bare bones. Some of these songs have grown on me, but it still seems like it's lacking something... I guess I'll see how it does in a few weeks.

Gonna listen to Burials (the last one of theirs I need to listen to) and this tomorrow, I'm psyched.

Man, not excited by the impressions posted here. Might not even bother checking it out.

I think they could have cut the opener, closer, above the bridge, and pink eyes and it would have been a great length slash higher quality overall

I agree. Usually artists will try to put their "best" song (or at least the one that is the most attention-grabbing) as the lead track... Having a forgettable opener is a huge misstep.

Yeah that sounds terrible, they have always had awesome openers (even on the album everyone hates CL).

Someone above said the leak isn't great quality right? If so I'll probably wait to hear it when it comes out.

I agree mostly. however i think the best parts of blood are better than the best parts of burials, but the worst parts of blood are worse than the worst parts of burials. if that makes any sense haha. still need to give this a few more spins to come to a definitive conclusion

I'll wait for the official release. Sounds like the leak is poor quality. Is there screaming on the record?

Definitely get what you mean, but I think I disagree still. "Still a Stranger" could be one of my top AFI songs, so I'll give you that, though. haha. Nothing else that I heard from this album tops my favorite songs from Burials though.

Not really any screaming. The song I just mentioned has a killer bridge where he starts to scream a little bit, but it's nothing like "Bleed Black" or anything from those days.

Still a Stranger and She Speaks the Language are just phenomenal songs in my opinion and I could listen to them over Burials no problem. I do like Burials, it just never fully clicked for me so I only revisit it every once in a while. and usually when I do, I select a few songs to listen to, I don't listen as a whole

Finally finished the discography after going through it over the last two months or so. I haven't listened to the new one yet, but my favorite was easily Decemberunderground. I also really dug Burials but just heard it for the first time today, so I'm excited to spend more time with that one.

I figured. I think his blood curdling screams are done unfortunately

  18. Man, I'm not excited to listen to this after all the comments in here. I'll still give it a shot but sounds like I'm not gonna like it.

Most of the time, I'm not too big on screaming, but AFI is one band that I feel like is at their best when they are aggressive so it's a big factor.

I would still just go into it with an open mind, but I think it's safe to say if you didn't like the last couple of records, this one won't really change your mind...

  21. Yea...not going to enjoy it.

I would assume the closest we'll get to screaming on an AFI album will be the yelly kind on I Hope You Suffer.

Weird because Xtremist was all screaming right? I do like my AFI heavier.

    No Fun. Not Ever.

Yeah. IMO, it's been going downhill ever since DU. But that's fine. I'll always have their earlier stuff.

Dang. Aside from a three or four songs, I think this album is pretty boring.

This is so disappointing. After four listens, it may even be my least favourite album of theirs. Time will tell.

Also, the leak quality is just fine. It's 320kbps. The issue lies with the production and mix. Muddy and lacking energy, especially in the percussion department.
