I dont love this, really hoping it grows on me. I dont dislike it though, so i will be spinning it for the foreseeable future, to give it a fair chance.
Comparing the songs to the leaked samples from a few months back, they really didnt leave a lot out. The songs are pretty basic mostly, and there are no surprises so far. So many repeated lyrics. For the record I loved the samples because I thought they were only giving a taste of the songs, but since most of the songs are repetitive, its like listening to each song sample 3 times on repeat.
Honestly, to me, the album lacks a flow. So they dont really get better in context. The album is good, its just not amazing to me. For me, and as of right now. It could click later, but Ill have to give it more listens.
That was my complaint a couple of pages back about the first three releases from this. He seems to repeat the hook over and over when you think the chorus should be done. "White......Offerings!" and "I'll wait for you..." are said over and over in those two songs to the point that you don't even really know where you're at in the songs. There's like no real structure so I get kind of lost. Kind of bummed to see they carried that trend throughout the album.
Aw man. I was hoping it'd be like Thrice where Blood in the Sand and Death From Above were ok but their place in the album made me like them a lot more.
The 2nd half of the album is great, and contains all the surprises. She Speaks the Language is my favorite song of theirs since DU. The Wind That Carries Me Away is a great song showcasing the band getting out of their comfort zone. Now that I've finished the album once I am eager to listen again with lyrics in front of me. so it's not all bad
Quality's a little rough on the leak...I'll wait. Also they re-released A Winter's Tale on this album? hmm..
"Still a Stranger" is a classic. The rest has kind of been droning on and sounds mostly like one long song... We'll see if it turns around at the halfway point.
I am so excited for this and also nervous. It's really hard to articulate how important this band has been to me for the last 11 years
