Yeah, White Offerings is a more upbeat song that would have been cool to see. I think Miss Murder is their biggest song I think? It was pretty bad. When they put Burials out, they did Kimmel as well and did 17 Crimes and Miss Murder and it sounded pretty good. The difference a few years make..... I think his scream is what is pretty much gone, I doubt we'll see songs like Kill Caustic or Death of Seasons live anymore. As much hate as Crash Love gets, I thought touring that was the last time Davey sounded spot on. He still has the energy live and I bet if you are actually there at the show he sounds good enough with everything else going on. Also Beautiful Thieves is an awesome song btw you haters, if anything this setlist needs more CL and DU. I will say that they need to switch up what songs are from those albums. Torch Song, End Transmission, The Interview and Summer Shudder need to make a comeback
Pink Eyes might be my favorite haha This album has really grown on me. I feel like the opener and closers are disappointing though
I saw them when they were touring Crash Love opening for Green Day, and it's still my least favorite live performance of any band I've seen.
AFI's Jade Puget Discusses 'The Blood Album,' Full Album Experience, Touring + More I know you guys have an issue with the production on this album. If I read this right, this is the first album that Jade produced so that's probably what the issue was.
I think we've talked about this before lol and I posted some youtube videos of them from that tour being good. I think you just saw a bad show which sucks because they are usually on point.
I don't know why they still play Miss Murder. Yeah, it's their biggest song but Davey can't sing it anymore. He always sounds like he's dying during the bridge. Plus, at least 70% of people at an AFI show have seen them play that song more than once & could do without it.
Can't see Miss Murder going anywhere but Medicate can be replaced by pretty much anything else as far as I'm concerned. I hope So Beneath You ends up in the setlist at some point.
I love Davey's delivery in the verses of Still a Stranger. Wish there was more of that and less of Snow Cats
Exactly how I feel about Pink Eyes. Makes me cringe every time. Above The Bridge is definitely middle tier but it's grown on me a considerable amount over the weeks. Honestly MOST of the album has grown a great deal.
Can honestly say this song hasn't grown on me in the last few weeks. Probably the only one that didn't.
This is the last "Pink Eyes sucks" post, I promise, but the delivery of the last "Put your petals in my mouth" line right before the final chorus kicks in is objectively the worst part of the whole album.
Above the bridge may be a top 5 song for me. I get not liking repetition, but in an album that needed more memorable melodies, that ones one of the best imo. Musically one of the better ones too.
Listened to it again today in the car and I definitely enjoyed it more this time, though I'm still not in love with it. Agree that Above the Bridge is not good at all, and the opening and closing tracks are pretty weak, but I like everything else to some degree.
I need to listen to the last couple of songs a few more times because I keep having to turn it off due to work or another distraction. Nothing really grabbed me about them on the first listen but I've heard a lot of people say they're some of the best on the record. The album's definitely grown on me otherwise. I'm torn on Above The Bridge because the lyrics are probably some of the worst they've written post-Answer That but the melody draws me in all the time and I find myself singing along more times than not.
That interview mentioned them writing songs that got scrapped and revamped as Blqck Audio material. I guess Above The Bridge should have been one of them.
That said, the opener is slowly growing on me. It's no Miseria Cantare or Torch Song for sure though.
Opened with "This Celluoid Dream" and ended with "Morningstar" last night Might be the first tour in a while that doesn't have the same safe setlist every night
I would absolutely shit a brick if I went to see them and and they unexpectedly went into This Celluloid Dream right upon walking out.
After a few listens I think this album is good, but could've been great if they had brought in a real producer. I find myself wanting to turn the volume up often when listening, but it doesn't help. Like the songs sound like they should be fuller...but they're not. There are a few songs I thought were complete duds that are growing on me with repeated listens though (namely Dark Snow and She Speaks the Language), but I agree with the fact that a few songs should have been cut, like the last track and Pink Eyes (which reminds me too much of Rock Lobster). Snow Cats and White Offerings are actually low points for me. And lastly, I think Feed From the Floor would've been great as a closer and might be the best song on here.
the album is growing on me a bit, the production sounds better in higher quality. i still can't stand "get hurt", horrible song, especially the vocal delivery. "above the bridge" is okay musically but once again that vocal delivery style ruins it again. "still a stranger" is easily the best, followed by "hidden knives" and then the two singles. also, reading that interview, Jade says that they wrote 60 songs for this album, i really wish they would focus down a bit. maybe take the best parts from unused songs and put them together or something, there's gotta be a lot of great stuff that is better than songs that did make the album. i think they need to focus on quality before quantity here, to make a truly great album again.
I've listened to this 6-7 times now, and it does get better every listen. Still my only complaints which seem to be common is the production, and a huge step down in lyrics. The last track for me is definitely the worst song on the record, which makes it feel more underwhelming at the end.
