Like always, I will wait until the release date to listen, but AFI is one of those bands where I'm not expecting them to put out their best work in 2016 if you know what I mean. Sing the Sorrow is one of my all time favorite albums and I don't think they'll ever make anything better.

I mainly look forward to new albums from them at this point because I know they'll tour for it. They're still one of the best live bands I've ever seen and I never miss their tours, especially because they don't do them a lot

I think the most frustrating thing about this album is that every song has ELEMENTS that are really cool and interesting and make me want to come back, but every song also has elements that make me cringe. She Speaks The Language is the only one that doesn't have a cringey part. It's very conflicting overall.

Honestly most of the songs are completely fine there's just too many of them and not enough of them are distinct from the others or anything else they've done.

Really?? I thought burials was far and away their most diverse, and suffered a bit for it. I love that album but there's some head-scratching stinkers on there.

I tend to hear a lot of Blaqk Audio influence and even a little XTRMST at times. Seems like maybe some songs were written for one or the other but held back and adapted to the "AFI sound".

It'll be interesting to hear what Dreamcar sounds like in comparison to these 3 bands and this Blood Album.

Such a bummer they dropped a lot of the electronic elements on here. And the production leaves a lot to be desired. Guess they shouldn't have let Jade produce this?

It always makes me anxious hearing a band say they are going to produce their next album. I think it helps having a separate pair of ears in the studio. You need someone to be like "yeah that's good but it could be better with..."

I think having all these projects going is leaving a lot of inspiration in the lyrics department weak as well.

It hit me today that so many songs on this album have choruses that are basically one line repeated three or four times. Makes some of them pretty forgettable. Not much effort put into the hooks or their lyrics.

I liked this more than I thought I would after hearing the singles. It's not much of an album experience though, feels like I could hit shuffle and hear all the songs in a brand new order and it wouldn't affect my enjoyment of the album much at all

still haven't heard the new one (dreading it at this point tbh) but i've been spending a lot of time with their catalog and i'm surprised that decemberunderground is my new favorite? never thought anything would supplant sing the sorrow but their songwriting took a huge leap on du which i don't think i noticed at the time. the production is also sooo good. crash love really distracted from this development in that they tried to make a really straightforward rock record but also lost all sense of dynamics

i don't hate the new album, but i also don't love it. my thoughts on it are pretty much... "great, another generic album" after the last two having a similar vibe. i miss the intensity of sing the sorrow and decemberunderground. i really don't have a problem with the music, i think it's mostly the "mature" vibe davey is going for, but it's boring. he needs to sing higher and scream to keep my attention. there's songs on here which literally make him sound like something between a country singer, and the killers (i'm looking at you, "get hurt", so cringeworthy), and then songs like "still a stranger" and "snow kids" which actually are really great, and throwback to their older sound a bit. i could see this growing on me a bit but initial impression is meh.

"Get Hurt" and "Above the Bridge" are two songs I could have easily cut from the album and don't feel like they enhance the album at all. The opener and closer aren't bad songs, but I do not feel like they are as strong as openers and closers should be (if that makes any sense).

Some songs are ok ("Pink Eyes" and "So Beneath You"), some are pretty damn good ("Hidden Knives", "Dumb Kids", and "White Offerings") and some are absolutely great ("Still a Stranger" and "She Speaks the Language"). The rest just kind of runs together into one long song and severely weighs down anything positive they did, IMO. Lack of energy in the songwriting and production make it drag.

I listened to it once so far and yeah most of it falls under "Alright, decent song" category. There are a few exceptions, like She Speaks the Language is fuckin great. I'll have to go through it more to see, and I WANT to go through it more. Nothing on the album has really turned me off yet which is always a good start.

Oh, Above the Bridge is probably the weakest for me on it.

This is okay. Most of the songs sound pretty similiar but I haven't really listened to anything other than Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground so idk.

  18. I was afraid but my first listen was very positive. It's probably their most energetic record in a while.

Not too many notable riffs on the album as a whole, but this intro piece is one of my favorites from them out of any album.

Listened to the first track and it's a very obvious transcode, going to wait til I know a better rip is out

  21. Rip is identical to the advances sent out. It just sounds that bad.
