Wester and A Winter's Tale have been treating me very well as of late despite not fitting the time of year at all.
I've listened to a couple of this band's albums once and didn't think much of it, but they're one of those bands I feel like I should try again.
I'm a fan of most of AFI's work up to and including Sing The Sorrow but then kind of fell off. Didn't love Decemberunderground, actually liked a decent amount of Crash Love, and Burials was fine but never really hit me that hard. I still respect the hell out of the band and will listen to whatever they put out, just holding out hope I really get into it this time.
You could skip their early records, but Black Sails in the Sunset, All Hollows EP, The Art of Drowning and Sing the Sorrow are all exceptional. Decemberunderground is very different, when they embraced the electronic aspect of their sound, but it's solid. Crash Love is hit-and-miss, and Burials is pretty good middle ground between DU and CL, with better songs than CL. That's my two cents!
I would love if the next album had some b-sides. Every album from Black Sails to Crash Love has at least one outtake that I adore.
I've been hooked on "The Despair Factor" recently. Been a go-to song during workouts and just in general.
I've been listening to "Synthesthesia" a lot (not sure if that's the actual title but it is on the download I have of STS). I miss this band.
I stumbled upon this in youtube completely by accident and I am SO HAPPY. I love it. Like, how long have we waited for this song?
Person who made the download did butcher the name I found out hahaha but yeah it's such a fun song! I completely get why it didn't make it on Sing The Sorrow, but god it's so great.
I could see me coming around to this. Of the more "acclaimed" AFI records this one is definitely my favorite. Dark and moody and goth and macabre, I love it.
I'll never forget listening to that album for the first time. "The Beginning," is one of my favorite openers.
Yeah that opening is great. The increased use of strings and keys is a nice addition too as far as making an atmosphere and setting the mood. The guitars and bass and drums do a really good job with that as well, especially the guitar.
