I’d consider flying to LA for this if I was able, but I just booked a cruise for that time. Oh welllll
“First and LAST” time seems a bit eye roll. Embrace that people LOVE this album of yours. Tour it! Bring in the $$$$. I’m sure this will sell all the way out.
At least stream it for people who can't go, that's insane if they really only do one show for that with no way to watch it outside of attending
Davey performing STS with whatever you call his current hairstyle will seem so wrong. And yes, that was my most important takeaway from that announcement.
Why only one show? It sucks that they rarely come to the UK anymore. If they did a few shows here for STS they'd sell out in no time. Not sure why they don't want to as from a business perspective it would do really well.
I get the impression that some (or one) of the band members don't care to dwell in the past, and that's why they don't ever do anniversary tours. However, they're playing a crazy number of older songs on their current tour, so who knows. I'm really struggling with whether to try and make this show. I have major travel anxiety, and this show would easily be the farthest out of my comfort zone I've ever gone.
They say that but a big reason why is they haven’t played a few of those songs since recording them. Some of them they either couldn’t or didn’t want to learn how to play live but that’s changed big time since the Blood Tour. I don’t think they even knew how to play Paper Airplanes or The Great Disappointment live. They also seem to be wrapped up in the now more than the past but I think maybe playing the record once changes their mind.
I don't doubt that's part of the reason with StS, but they've also opted not to do anniversary tours for Black Sails or AoD. Special merchandise, yes, but not shows.
Just dropping this gem of a b-side that might be my favorite afi song. Wouldn’t be surprised if they perform it that day.
If these guys aren’t gonna do an album tour, I hope they at least tour next year and play a handful of songs from it
I have wondered if there’s a rights issue with that or something, because I’ve noticed songs like Rabbits Are Roadkill and Fallen Like The Sky disappearing & reappearing on Spotify at random times.
I searched last night for "Synesthesia live" and to my surprise they played it live once back in 2018 in Cali directly following "Now The World". I swear I've seen "Paper Airplanes" on setlist.fm in the not too distance past. I'm currently debating on reordering some tracks in my iTunes. I have a "Sing The Sorrow" b-sides album with the album cover but in grey with 100 Words, Rabbits, then Synesthesia Then I have the "336" EP with Now The World and Reiver's Music. I have some STS demo songs listed under their respects single artwork that they were released on instead of a "demo" style collection. To keep the artwork historically accurate or whatever the shit lol. These are things no one cares about at all but just things I debate in my head.
I Have No Voice: Sandslash Sees AFI Live goddamn did I miss seeing this band. Tonight was the best they’ve sounded since the Burials tour.
The band was really firing on all cylinders during STS. Their absolute best album and still SO many great b sides from that time period
Now The World Synesthesia Revivers Music This Time Imperfect (hidden track) Then also: Rabbits are Roadkill (recorded with STS but eventually released as decemberunderground bonus track) Carcinogen Crush (eventually released with Crash Love) 100 Words (released on deluxe Crash Love)
I have most of them on an iPod touch along with the STS demos and a few other songs (Transference, Fallen Like The Sky, Jack The Ripper). Don’t remember where I got these from but they’ve been on an external hard drive for ages. there’s also two iTunes bonus tracks from Crash Love that aren’t on Spotify or the deluxe version that I had at some point. Those would have been the best on the record. The View From Here is one I haven’t been able to track down.
I think Steve nailed all the STS outtakes. "The View From Here" is one I only I hadn't heard of at all until this week. Only found it on YouTube so far. Decemberunderground outtake.
