WAY worse? That's kind of a ridiculous take in my opinion. I have no issue with production on either album.
That’s wild to me. Blood is super muddy sounding and badly suffered from the lack of an actual producer, and Burials sounds huge.
I do really love Burials, but the last two have been more hit or miss for me. Not necessarily that they're bad, but more that my expectations were perhaps too high.
I probably like burials overall more but they’re close - I do like blood a lot and I think it’s probably the more consistent and higher floor of the 2. Definitely has its share of top tier tracks. burials also sounds better but I think blood sounds better than most people give it credit for. A little sterile but very listenable.
Burials Bodies Blood Burials has the best production out of this bands entire discography. Blood was a giant step backwards in that category.
There are songs on Blood I would LOVE to hear with Burials production. Hidden Knives, Still a Stranger, So Beneath You, etc.
Hidden Knives and Still a Stranger are both worse versions of Greater than 84. They're all basically the same song except GT84 has good production and better vocals
The title track is one of their best songs ever. I wish it didn't sound this flat production wise though.
I wonder if we get a STS 20th anniversary remastered edition. I imagine Geffen owns the masters so not sure how the relationship would work but it'd be cool to have a remastered version with the bonus tracks/b-sides as separate tracks.
I would love a remaster of STS and even Decemberunderground. AFI are always one of my go too fall / winter bands for sure.
so bizarre that they don't seem to give a shit about doing anything for those records other than making shirts. I feel like they're now some of the biggest OOP records in the scene.
I don’t think they have much control over pressing those since the major label owns the rights. I could be wrong on that, but major labels are surprisingly still not that aware of putting certain records back into press. They seem to have “bigger fish to fry” for the most part. It will probably take a small vinyl label to purchase the rights for vinyl for it to happen, which could have happened.
from what I understand, a few years ago adeline records had the rights and was putting together STS repressing and the band was apathetic to it so it fell through.
It would be good if they got the label to or if they could acquire the rights (probably a long stretch): 1. Remaster their hit records 2. Give us some vinyl rereleases 3. Actually give us a solid b-side album
I truly just want a standard black vinyl copy of sorrow and December. Don’t need frills. It bugs me you can’t just get that. Oh well, waited this long I guess.
